Post subject: What area for family with 3 kids?

My last topic was lost but I'll start again.
We will be moving to Shanghai at the end of the year and our kids (10, 6 and 3.5) will be going to the French school. We are looking for a place to live not too far from the school( French/German school) but this school is meant to move in sept 2005 towards Gao Jing road (Huqingping).
What is that area like? My husband visited a few houses there but nothing is finished yet. At the moment we live in a little town and we can easily cycle and walk everywhere. The kids like being outside and are quite sporty (football, tennis, riding) so the area where we live is really important.
I will be going to Shanghai mid october so I need some advice!!!!
Thanks and hopefully this message will not disappear like last time.

think i sent you a reply and you're right it's lost - probably due to the site revamp...
as i mentioned before, huqingping roads, in my opinion, is suffering from too much traffic. it's always going to take you ages to get in and out -probably why the houses available are nice and cheaper. as an alternative, look at the big residential areas of hongqiao and gubei. much more convenient for moms who need to get things done. you can walk and cycle to most shops.

The German and French is moving ?? Right now, my office is ten minutes away fro that school! Moving ? I dn;t know ?
I know one of my models from Germany living in that area, Hu qing Ping Rd. is very far from the downtown, and has nothing there.30 minutes from the nearest shopping area-GuBei.and you'd better to have a car if u live there. and as one said, lots traffice duing the rush hours.
There are some nice villas that area. If you can foot the bills.
And also you can find nice apartment near the GuBei area, which lots expat people living there.
I can tell you more if you have any quesions. You can contact me also when you get here. IF your kids want to do some modeling jobs you can contact me also. My office is very very close to French And German school.

If you don't mind living in an apartment Gubei is definitely the most convenient for shopping, cafes, foreign food stores, etc., if you want to be close to that school (about 10 minutes by cab). A nice 3BR place will cost you approx. US$1,000-US$1,300. Unforunately not much outdoors stuff to do unless you live in a place like Mandarin City and play tennis.
