Post subject: Fast train between Bejing and Shanghai

Hi,

I just went to Beijing last week by train. The new non-stop fast train between Beijing and Shanghai is very clean and very comfortable. Expecially for people like me who just needs to go to Beijing and come back the next day without staying overnight in hotel.

You can find more detailed information on their website: http://www.shz-shrail.com/. If you can't read Chinese, here are the brief info:

The prices are RMB499/per bed, (RMB478 for upper bed). RMB283 for soft seats which are only on Z1/Z2, Z21/Z22. It takes 11hrs and 58min between SH and BJ.

No. / From / To / start / arrive
Z2 SH BJ 19:21pm 07:19am
Z6 SH BJ 19:14pm 07:12am
Z8 SH BJ 19:28pm 07:26am
Z14 SH BJ 19:00pm 06:58am
Z22 SH BJ 19:07pm 07:05am

No. / From / To / start / arrive
Z1 BJ SH 19:21pm 07:19am
Z5 BJ SH 19:14pm 07:12am
Z7 BJ SH 19:28pm 07:26am
Z13 BJ SH 19:00pm 06:58am
Z21 BJ SH 19:07pm 07:05am

I didn't have time last week to order ticket in advance. I just jumped on taxi and ran to Shanghai railway station. They have (NO.44/No.42) windows expecially for these fast trains in their first floor ticket hall. The same thing in Beijing railway station.

It's only 12 hours and don't need to run between city center to airport, no wasting time checking in and waiting for lugages. And the price is not bad at all.

I'd like to take this train to Beijing but I have two suitcases and a smaller carry-on. Is there space in the cabin for luggage or a possibility for checking in luggage?

Big suitcases won't be a good idea.
I usually travel with a medium size expandable suitcase and put it either on the top or under the table.
There is some space under the bed but even without expanding my suitcase it won't work. The beds are too low.

Thanks for the response.

I called the station and they said that you need to check in 6 hours before the train leaves and it takes at least 3 hours to retrieve the luggage. That was just too inconvenient and so I had to cancel my train ticket (lost 20% of 499 RMB) and bought a plane ticket.

I guess the train would be good for short trips without much luggage.

argl, so i bet my moving to BJ by the train sounds like a stupid idea, then.
Most probably will be carrying quite a bunch of stuff.
Shucks. So I guess I'll have to get a flight ticket then.

Does the Zxx train stop in Suzhou ? Or is there another slower train with "plenty" of space for all my stuff ?
anyone done that before ?
