| Post subject: Chinese wedding - what to expect?? |
I received an invitation to a Chinese wedding reception. What I should expect? What will happen during the party, what should I wear, etc...? |

Bring RMB500 for close friends, or RMB300 for common acquaintances as gift.
Prepare to say congratulations not to bride/groom, but to their parents.
Bride and groom will give all of you wonderful performance you've never expected, and this is different from one couple to another, so can't tell the details.
Wear in formal way, but don't wear your best clothes.

They want you to say cong. in front of the public I think. They want to show they have good relationship with so many people.
In one word, the wedding in some sense is all the business of the parents... |

I guess I was a bit fussy... Do you usually congrat bride/groom or instead, do you wish them happiness? Whereas you do congrat their parents?

They will most likely come round to each table and drink a cheers with each table.
You will have to pose for a photo with the happy couple when you go in.
Unfortunately, I went to a wedding with my gf for her friends who I did not know at all. The speaker said 'and we have a very special guest from England...' I felt like screaming. Hopefully you can remain as invisible as possible. |

I just attended a wedding of one of my good friend, held in a big hall of a five-star hotel in Beijing. Yes I certainly wish the new couple be happy in the future, and at the same time, I said many words to express my congratulation, praise with their parents, I said they had cultivated an excellent son who is a PH.D, they feel happy; then I said look your new daughter is so beautiful and as I know she is a very nice girl. I said to their parents they have reached a new milestone in the life, they would be happy/no any worrying in the future 'cos of the nice new-combined young couple. I said actually no you parents no the happy couple .... actually I found that i said nothing to the new couple on that day, except I shouted "once more...once more..." with others when the bride and groom performed kiss on the stage.....

And a bunch of flowers ... Lilies and Roses all are good for wedding as gift ...

Oh I am sure You are talking about the game session after the wedding ceremony and feast ... oh yeah that is Fuuuuuun ... alots if nasty tricks well in a good way though ... poor new couple ...

i hear if you give money to bride and bridegroom,you should give even money,200,400 or 600.... no 300 or 500.odd number is only for funeral in china.so....are u ready?  |

are weddings in China as rediculously **** LOUD as they are in America? I've been to a few friend's [CHinese] weddings in America and my ears hurt. And there was like an MC lady and they were in a large place separated up by dividers and multiple weddings at once. I'm guessin the mulitiple weddings in the same place doesn't need to happen in China cause it's cheaper here and whatnot. So are they still so loud?
Also, are they all the same here? Is it a competition to be exactly the same here?
Do they hire a wedding company to do it all?
Do they do pictures all day for an album first? Again, since they aren't sending it back for the parents I guess this is unncissary.
