Post subject: Hotel Quality (TianPing Hotel)

Finally I'll be taking a vacation to Shanghai. I'll be arriving on the 25th. My dad helped me booked a hotel around XuJiaHui. It's called TianPing Hotel I think. Does anyone here have any experience with that hotel? It's supposed to be a 3-star hotel, but I'm not sure just what 3-star quality means in Shanghai. The good thing is it's relatively cheap (around 500 RMB a night). My dad said if I didn't like that hotel his friend can help me book a nicer one.

In general how would everyone here rate hotel qualities in Shanghai. I'm not talking about those big international chains like Ritz Carlton or Hilton. I know I can trust the quality and service of world famous chains. The question is whether the local ones are on par with the big names? If I went to a 3-star in Shanghai can I expect the same level of cleanliness and service as those in the US?

Another concern of mine is security. I hope the hotel I'm staying at has an in-room safe. Don't wanna have any money stolen while I'm out.
