| Post subject: McAfee virus update -- Blocked in China ?? |
I've been able to update my McAfee virus software (legitimate subscription, paid with American credit card) without a glitch over the past 2 years, from here in China. A few weeks ago, however, the page wouldn't load in my browser. Just a black page. I bugged support, they sent me to another URL and I downloaded a zip file and installed the updates -- no problem, less than five minutes.
Now I can't even get that page to load, so I can't download the zip file.
So I bugged support again, and here's their response:

If you are in main land China, then your IP address is being blocked. We are not allowed to send or email or allow downloads at this time to any IP addresses in your part of the world due to trade agreements.
If you are in Taiwan, then the download page should open. |
So even though I've paid for the subscription, I'm screwed? Anyone else having problems with this? |

That is strange. I have no problem at all !
May I ask which package / version are you using ? I am using McAfee Virus Scan which updates automatically without going through your browser. I noticed that they have different packages. May that could be an explanation.
I must say the message you got from them is rather cheeky. First you buy a package, then they block your IP. BTW are you using a firewall ? |
