Post subject: where to buy a computer in china ?

I am living in Guangzhou now and i wonder if it's still more interesting to go to HongKong to buy a laptop computer (notebook) ?
When i was in Shanghai, i found out the prices were pretty high. Recently i went to a computer market in Guangzhou, and i was very surprised to see that the prices are almost the same as in Shanghai, and even more expensive than in France.

I didn't check all computers, since i am interested by good but cheap laptop, i just compared the ACER laptops in Guangzhou with the ones in france. Most of them are more expensive in china, sometime 2000rmb more expensive for the same model.

How about HK ? Some people know where can i find computers for a good price ? Is there any tax to pay when we buy a laptop (or something else) in HK and go back to China ?
All useful informations are welcome Smile
thanks

kennylucky@hotmail.com on MSN instant messenger nicknamed Levis troubleshoots for Microsoft in Shanghai. He went with me when I bought my AMD Athlon XP 2800+ and I've been told it wasn't a bad price by friends and family in Canada and the U.S. Give him a little time to research what you want to know.
Don't be afraid to pay a little more to shop locally.

Not only is HK better value, it's better quality, even for 'identical' products.

just some additional advice. Even the branded name products made here in china or for the china market may not be up to the quality for the identical product overseas. case in point. I recently bought a high capacity maxtor HDD which was made here for the chinese market, not that i knew it at the time... to cut along story short... the HDD had to be replaced twice, fault sectors after only 1 weeks home use... when I spoke with the IT manager at the particular store about it, he found the boxes all had been marked with "NOT FOR RESALE OUTSIDE MAINLAND CHINA' on further investigation on my part it seems that most international brands whther produced under licence or thru JV here are produced to much lower specs or use lower grade materials than the products for export. I also had problems witha top end NEC phone here, actually two of them and when it came time to hassle under warranty it was exactly that a BIG hassle. The reason that this can happen is because the locals will tolerate this, they don't (generally) complain, they will simply just accpet the poor quality or workmanship and bin what doesn't work even it is a few days old than to go hassle the retailer. My advice, is buy a cheaper local product a no name brand or go to HK.
