| Post subject: Chinese to English translation |
A friend of mine will open a Bar in Beijing soon. The Chinese name of the Bar is called 声洞 (also homophonic another phrase 生动) . As the name implies, the Bar will have live band and DJ activities. Now he needs to have an English name for his logo design.
声 means in Chinese "Sound", or "Voice", and 洞 means "Cave", "Cavern", etc. So "Sound Cave Bar" would be one possibility.
Any other better ideas? I would really welcome and appreciate any creative thoughts from the members here, both expats and locals!
Thanks a lot in advance! |

"Sound Cave Bar" sounds a bit strange to me. Maybe try shortening it to SCB and then have a cool logo. Although SCB kind of sounds like a bank and I usually don't like to say "hey ... let's all hit SCB (or anything with just letters) tonight".
What about something visual?
VoiCe
.....a
.....v
.....e
Or
CaVe
....o
....i
....c
....e
(Without the dots ... I just put those in for placement)
Would lose the "Bar" ... if it is marketed well and gains popularity, people will know it is a bar.
Just my thoughts. |

How about...
Voice.
The Sound Cave.
The Cave.
Echo Bar. (I like that one too, knockknock_ca)
...off the top of my head. |

Thanks for all your responses!
Magnolia, very creative idea! And you are such a helpful person as many members have said about you!
knockknock_ca, Echo Bar is a very interesting and creative name in that it is not a direct translation from the Chinese name, instead it is a kind of the “result” of sound in a cave – it echoes.
PhatAV8r, I thought about the name too, but for some reason, the word “hole” does not sound right. But I really appreciate your input.
Caesara, thanks for all your inputs too. They are all good ideas. One thing though, the name “The Cave” is already used by a bar here in Shanghai.
I will pass these good ideas to my friend in Beijing.
Thanks again! |
