| Post subject: Average cost for single |
I will be working in the Shanghai Center on Nanjing Xi Lu and was wondering where I could find in the surrounding area, an affordable (1500-2000rmb) place to live. Or maybe I should say the closet decent/affortable place to live?
Also what metro line station would I get off of?
As a single female, what should I be expecting to pay on average in terms of rent, utilities, transportation (metro/bus) and food (eating out most meals since I can't cook).
Thanks in advance for any feedback!!! |

As for the accomodation, I have to say that there's almost impossible to get accomodation around that area in such budget, not to say a decent one.
You can take metro line 2, and get off at either Jinan temple or Shimen no. 1 road, Shanghai Centre is somewhere in the middle of these 2 stops.
If you want to live close to where you work, you expect to pay about 3000 rmb for rent, but if you are willing to travel a bit, that is may be a few blocks north, you might get a one bedroom apartment for around 2000 to 2500. As for utilities, take my one bed room apartment for example, the monthly cost is about 200 for phone + internet; 50 for gas, 30 for water, and 200 for electricity. Transportation fee will depend on what means you are going to take: public transportation is cheap, from 2 to 3 per trip, and taxi fare is not expensive neither. When I didn't have a bike before, I spent about 1,000 per month. But I always like to stay at home. Eating out is the same, you can fill your stomach up for just 5 yuan, or have a decent meal for several hundred. For a meal in an average local restaurant, it's about 30 yuan.
Hope these give you a brief idea. |
