| Post subject: Rock out in Shanghai |
I know that when I first arrived in China, I felt that the music scene was COMPLETELY different from where I come from. I didn't know any of the songs on the radio, none of the singers, etc. I feel that music is one of the biggest parts of a place's culture. You may not know who.. let's see.. Cai Qin (蔡琴) is, but ask a local and they will not only be able to croon a few of her songs, but they may ask you to go with them to Karaoke so that they can belt out a few more.
It seems that sooner or later, no matter who you are or what you are doing in Shanghai, you are going to wind up in a Karaoke bar with a microphone stuck in your face being begged to sing a Chinese song. You might want to acquaint yourself with the music before complete embarrassment sets in.
Well, in just 2 days on November 6th, there is going to be a huge concert at Shanghai Stadium featuring some of the latest, most "happening", and musically talented Chinese artists of today. It looks like it is not only going to be a super exciting event, but to all of us foreigners, it can be quite an education.
If you want to find out more and maybe get yourself (and a special date) some tickets, check out:

Hope to see you there!

Pardon my inexperience, but isn't this like telling a visitor to the US to go see that awful show with Simon-what's-his-name as a judge, or the Backstreet Boys, or Britney Spears... etc, in order to experience the "most... musically talented [American] artists of today"? Reading over your post again, I suppose that's the only part of it I take issue with.
