| Post subject: POP3 problems |
Since yesterday I have been unable to download messages from my mailserver using POP3 access and Outlook. I can get into my mailserver through webmail OK and I can send emails from Outlook. However, when I try to download emails, I get a "server connection interrupted" message. This tends to happen every now and then. I think it might be worse for me in China because my mailserver is hosted by Yahoo business services.
Does anybody know a way to fix this problem? Do you think using a proxy server would help?

Dek, I was having the same problem yesterday. Keep trying, it'll probably correct itself. It happened to me before. |

I've got a slightly different problem...
I used to use Mail.com POP3 setup for outlook but for reasons beyond my control have had to use idataexpress lite. But when I try to send emails to most US or Aust servers it gets bounced back saying the local (Chinese) host is a spammer. Does anyone know how to get around this?
How do I find out what my POP3 settings are? I got my ADSL connection through my agent and they don't know what I'm talking about. Then they give me a 10000 number to call which is only in Chinese...help.... |

Unfortunately a lot of chinese host servers are misused for spam. I am afraid that for your problem there is no other choice than looking for another service.
An alternative is to use yahoo for your outgoing mail. You have to set up the POP3 option. Your provider will have to give you the incoming and outgoing mail server adresses.
If you use outlook or outlook express with your adsl connection, you also need your incoming mail server to set up POP3. But for the outgoing mail server you need to use the one from the ADSL provider. If I am not mistaken for China telecom it's online.sh.cn
There is a thread about that subject here in the Tech section
Those people at the 10000 number are as useful as a chocolate fireman. I am trying to set up POP3 on my PDA phone, and so far nobody was able to give me the outgoing mail server for cmnet GPRS, so till now I can only receive emails and if I want to send I still have to go through Yahoo.
Hope you can work it out ! |

Hi Carrol and Andreas, thanks for your suggestion, though I've already set up an email address elsewhere with Netregistry. It's just an inconvenience at present. I can always go back to my previous settings with Mail.com for my Outlook POP3. Lucky I didn't delete those!
Cheers guys. |
