Hi Folks,
Does anybody use voice over ip to communicate with europe or the us?
Do you have any problems loging in to your SIP provider?
I used Voice over IP for one week and after that i could not log in anymore to my Sip network provider. I changed nothing on my configuration.
Does anybody know what could go wrong?

Try using Skype...it works fine for me
You can either use it as a Computer-Computer VoIP
or sign up to what they call SkypeOut which lets you call normal phones...not sure about prices out of China though

I am not so impressed with VoIP. The quality is not always as good as PSTN. Also I wanted to make cheap calls from my mobile, because I travel a lot. I am using a company called CellWireless. Gives you the flexibility to call from mobile phones and land lines, without the hassle of phone cards and PIN numbers. Your call records you can see online, your recharges you can do online also. You can check more details on my web site or in the classifieds section.
SwedishChef, I heard something about safety issues with Skype. You ever had any problem ? I used it myself for a while, but I call ost of the time mobile. Hence I found it not so practical for me. |

I you are calling Germany there is a fairly reliable software available from www.web.de (WebPhone), sound quality and price is better than Skype, but Server is not always available, I have both Skype + WebPhone installed, just to be on the safe side. |

I had a look at Vonage as well. The problem is you can not use it from your mobile. |

Snowbytes,
It all depends on how much you travel. 90% of all my international calls are from my mobile or PDA phone. I take a laptop with me as well, but most of the time have to use GPRS wireless card to access the internet. So VoIP is not really an option for me. An then there is the issue with call quality, which can vary a lot. |

Vonage was working great for me for a while. Now it's not. I'm wondering if it's something China Telecom has done to foil it. Is that possible? Vonage customer service has been of no assistance so far.
Like Andreas said, the problem with VoIP is you can't use it from your mobile. I signed up for Cell Wireless which looks incredible. I hope it's okay Andreas, I used your username as my referrer.
Anyone else having problems (or not having problems) with Vonage?
The thing I like about Vonage is the fact it gives me a State-side phone number. Does anyone know of other services that could give me a U.S. number that could forward here at a decent rate? |

CellWireless works fine for me. They had some issues last year (when they were still 1CellNet) with connectivity and line quality. After they were taken over by CellWireless, a lot of new equipment was installed and they had very few problems since. I am using it daily for my overseas calls and it saved me a lot of money. As I mentioned I make most of my call with my mobile, and for that it's ideal. Vonage used to be good, and I have no idea why it's not working properly anymore. |

"Anyone else having problems (or not having problems) with Vonage? "
The only problem I had with Vonage was with the piece of #$%@ phone I bought at the market. I've since replaced it with a GE and it's all fine.
I've been using Vonage for 7 months and haven't had any problems with it at all. I love it.

we had the same problem with our vonage phone... worked fine for many months after some initial teething problems, which were sorted then just paked up one day and despite repeated calls and assistnace from the vonage people it was found that the vonage router was faulty -many many months later the replacement unit is still yet to arrive. needless to say no vonage no problem. also now using skype, whihc while not as useful as vonage has been ok within its capabilities thus far
