| Post subject: Living room divx player |
Hello,
My TV is too far from my computer to lay a cable between the two. Where do you think I can find a cheap living room Divx player? I am not looking for an Archos handheld player but more for a cheap DVD/CD style player that can play most Divx.
Do you know a local brand, model?
In Europe the Kiss player is a good deal for example.
Thanks

So nobody has a home Divx Player? really? That's a shame, it's so nice. |

Well, my Bu Bu Gao DVD player (a DV-967-K) does Divx, but it's kind of flaky in other ways. Unlike my other Bu Bu Gao player (a DV961K), it tends to crash out on standard (pirate and genuine) DVDs.
The DV961K, though, doesn't do Divx, but has proved to be rock-solid on just about all other formats.
Maybe you could try one of the newer Bu Bu Gao models, or maybe mine (the DV-967-K) is a unique dud or just needs a firmware update. |

yeah, cmon. just buy a long cable. it's like $50 at worst -- and that's in the US. in SH it's probably 50 RMB. |

SLV, Are you single? I have a maniac girlfriend!!! Do you know Monica in Friends? I am already having an Ethernet cable passing through the living room since my AV receiver is capable of handling MP3 and Net radios. (I need to buy a wifi bridge to do that) But they charge as much for them as a regular access point so it can wait.
Remember, it's not one cable you need for divx but two, one for video (SVHS) and one for sound (Optical)
The Ethernet is temporary but the two other will not. So I would rather burn the divx and watch them on a standalone player.
So I need a good Divx player that can be firmware upgraded.
SLV: don't get a girlfriend!!!

What would you use at TV to TV wireless box like people use when they have only one cable access and two TVs? Do you know one of those that really works? And does it handle S-VHS and different audio sources?

As far as I know you can get the Kiss players here...well, at least in Hong Kong...but if you know someone who is going there then it may be a good idea to ask them to pick one up for you... |

Hello Clave,
A Divx file is a video file that has been taken from a DVD. It is much smaller than a DVD and still usually the picture is very good anyway. It is to Video what Mp3 is to CD.
Even though in China you can find many Dvds there are still movies or documentaries you do not find here so you can download a Divx and burn it on a simple CD ROM.
You can also plug your computer to your TV and then you have a nice experience.
As a little tip, if you look for great sound and great picture then Usually you will need to look for Divx that are in two files. These files are usually around 700 mgs and finish by the extension .avi |

I’ve been using a wireless system to transmit TV (video/sound) between two systems for a couple of years, and it works great. My unit doesn’t have an S-Video connection, but has three (3) RCA standard audio/video cables. It’s simple and inexpensive.
Orbsat is the name on my unit. It transmits/receives at 2.4 GHz. A remote control is included.
I bought the unit from the company that provided our satellite TV service. Their phone number is 1380 198 0941 or 1331 198 1062
The unit cost around 300RMB |

Thanks baudbaud. Would I download the Divx file I'd like to burn from the net or directly from the TV with my PC connected to it?
thanks |

You can do both, burn the file on a CD and buy a divx player (which I am trying to do) or connect your computer to your TV through a S-vhs cable |

HA! Well put, in fact at the moment i am single. quite telling... >_<; Well, I mostly date nerds, anyway, it helps keep us all sane! Yeah then I guess find a chinese divx player, they must exist. have you checked out, I remember there was an old divxhelper.com site related to vcdhelper.com and whatnot? it listed like every model of dvd player in existence (but maybe not all these chinese brands!) and had details andanecdotes about their flexibility playing divx, svcd, mp3, and other formats, and even had links to hacked firmwares and stuff so you could support xvid et al. give it a shot? or maybe your adsl is as worthless as mine... ^^; |

Hello SLV,
I do not have a cable going through my apt. anymore. I WiFied my receiver last week. I know most of the world brands out there and I think, even though the Kiss players are buggy, they are still the best deal out there.
So I will have to find a way to bring one over as I have not found one here so far.
