Post subject: Honest to god, I am not a complete spanner...

But, I downloaded a load of stuff on my laptop last night, and something has changed. My tool bar on the top of my screen when surfing the net is different and I am missing all my icons such as refresh, back etc. What can I do to make it back to normal? I have tried everything, even uninstalling the screensaver I downloaded. I am not a cock or computer illiterate. But somethings happened, and I am absolutely flummoxed.....Can anyone help?

Well I downloaded some animated Japanese desktop items, and a Matrix 3d screensaver [don't ask, the demo hypnotised me] I can't tell you were they are from either I'm afraid.
Whats O/S? all I do know is all hell's broken lose, and I keep having to go to View to click back, etc..

O/S = Operating System. eg Win2000, XP, Linux, etc. If you are using XP you can use system restore to go back a day or so, undo any changes.

jp hey all you need to to is goto view tools and look at your toolbars. Also just try to pull the menus down as some may just be hiding. Just drag and drop

Driz, go to (Whatever they are in Chinese...) Start, Programs, Accessories and look for 系统还原. Should be in there somewhere. It's an icon with a computer, back-arrow, and clock. Make sure you really want to do that though.

And don't download those screensavers. They always come with "extras."

As a matter of fact, go to www.lavasoft.de and pick up adaware. I'm willing to bet that if you downloaded all that stuff, you got a lot more junk than you bargained for.

Hope that helps.

there are a number of tools available that you can use to remove hijackers, spyware, adware and so on, which sounds like what you have got on your system, inadvertently by downloading what you have. try these...

http://www.lavasoft.de -here you'll get adaware
http://www.kephyr.com -here you can get bazooka
www.safer-networking.org -here you can get spybot

once you have installed these and you run them they can scan your system and help you remove any and all baddies... im sure you will be amazed at what you have on your computer...
also you can go to one of many tech info sites to get more info... eg. www.techtv.com or www.netguide.com.au or www.pcmag.co.uk
or else just go to a mirror download site www.tucows.com and do a search for many different types of software such as those above. good luck Smile
PM me if you need more info or advice Very Happy

Hey thanks everyone!
I am going to check out the sites as listed above. Still can't get my tool bar back in order though - nothing drags/drops.

seems the software u downloaded contains spyware that changed your register form for your OS. Run AdWare scan and move away whatever it scans out.. you can download AdWare free from http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ .

otherwise u can ask someone to edit your register form directly.. but don't do that unless that person is positive with what he is changing..

Actually I strongly suggest you install Spybot-S&D later if u download free software often.. it is free.. and everytime your register form is changed, Spybot will jump out and ask whether u allow the change.. that will prevent spyware from changing your register form w/o your knowing..
