South Beauty's presentations and qualilty are very impressive. The decor and ambience are fabulous. But overpriced and eccentric.

my two cents:

'hei san niang' in Qi bao inside the VANKE compound. Their shui zhu yu/rou is to die for. Little filthy but very authentic taste. If you live in that area, give it a shot.

The one on ding xi lu is great. I love their dan dan mian.

Where is this VANKE compound?

Also, is the one on Ding Xi Lu the one with the face changing performance? Been there. Very spicy stuff. Pretty good. The show was better though.

VANKE compound is on Qixin Lu (the main strip in Qibao) near the Hongqiao airport . The 911 bus route also ends at the compound.

I live in Vanke so I have eaten in that sichuan place a lot of times.
The restaurant is owned by sichuanese and the kitchen is run by sichuanese cooks, 75% of their clientele is sichuanese. So what does it say? Authentic, home cooked sichuan food, which is fiery, tasty and good.
I usually specify least spicy when I order, but that probably already converts to highly spicy in other restaurants.
Summary: authentic, good sichuan food as sichuanese will have them in sichuan.
Guaranteed fiery bum the next day.

Si-chuan food is pretty hot but the mouth numbing effect doesn't last more than 5-10 minutes I find, but Hunan food numbs everything from your mouth right through your guts for days !
