Post subject: Thai restaurants

I cannot find an authentic Thai restaurant in Shanghai. Yesterday I tried "Banana Leaf" in Hong Kong Plaza, they are great except the grilled pork sauce. Another Thai restaurant in 久光 department store is yet too far from Thai foods. Still keep trying!

Hmmm. Irene's Thai is not bad, close to Malones in Tong Ren Lu.
Simply Thai is obviouslly a good choice, although a bit pricey and normally hosting a crowd on the pretentious side (but hey it's shanghai). Nick, what was this thai restaurant that you recommended the other day?

I used to go to the one in Citic Square on Nanjing Xi Lu. Lunch set for 50 RMB. You would want to book though, they're always pretty packed. Have been there in the evening as well, and proper dinner for two , with a bottle of decent wine came at around 500chinese bucks...

What was it called Fiddler? That sounds like a good deal.
I would recommend Simply Thai, the food is pretty scrummy!

I think Fiddler mentioned about Ma Boon Krong in Citic Square (4th fl., maybe). Their chefs are Thai and their staff are friendly.

HC, Irene's Thai's foods are not bad but don't try to order their desserts!!! It's the worst one!

I want to try Thai Gallery, the owner of Bali Laguna opened it. Any suggestion?

^ Which dishes you ordered then? Maybe some of them are not authentic. But I bet their grilled pork is authentic, believe me cuz I'm thai.

I tried "Thai Thai" in Zheng Da, Pudong, last weekend. Too sweet even their Tom Yam!

What about Indian food? I joined Indian Kitchen and opened a new one in Pudong (480 Minsheng Road). Also offering set food and take-away food. It is an ample place with leafy deco and an exotic atmosphere, good for party. Also offering set food for lunch and take-away service.
I assure you it is a place worth a visit.

I think that Simply Thai and Maboonkrong is good. I'm Thai too. I rarely go to Thai food rest. here. Another one just open in Hongqiao is Jatujak. There are set lunch menu which the price is abt RMB 26. My tip to get the authentic taste is that every time I go to Thai rest. I hv to ask for the cook to come out and ask them for the real thai taste. Hv you ever try Thai hot pot named "Coca" ?, in Hongqiao area is better than in Raffle Square, I heard.

Bellabella, how about their foods then?

I'm on diet, don't want to enjoy too much eating. Just cook Thai spicy salads by myself now!

^Thanks, Xinlaide!
