| Post subject: beggar's salary |
just read from the news that some can earn over 100,000rmb a year.. darn! .. that's 0.1 million.. not far from millionaire!
once saw this old dirty handicapped guy moving around in the subway begging for money.. saw him when i got into zhangjiang high tech station.. gave him a coin though.. but when i arrived at zhongshan park which was the final stop.. he just jumped up from the floor.. and walked out like a happy teen! he probably met a kind surgeon somewhere in the subway who fixed his legs.. boo! |

They make more than we do by sitting on their asses. Why perpetuate it?
edit: hey, you can still say "asses"! |

Trick me out of a couple of coins…I don’t care; it doesn’t diminish the act of kindness….
I realize there are not many “believers” out there, but someone wiser than I said, “There but for the grace of god, goes you or I”. |

^ Hear, hear!
Phil Ochs changed it to: "There but for Fortune, go you or I...", in one of Joan Baez's most popular songs:
Show me a prison, show me a jail,
Show me a prisoner whose face has gone pale
And I'll show you a young man with so many reasons why
And there but for fortune, may go you or I
Show me the alley, show me the train,
Show me a hobo who sleeps out in the rain,
And I'll show you a young man with so many reasons why
There but for fortune, may go you or go I -- you and I.
Show me the whiskey stains on the floor,
Show me the dunken man as he stumbles out the door,
And I'll show you a young man with so many reasons why
There but for fortune, may go you or go I -- you and I.
Show me the country where bombs had to fall,
Show me the ruins of buildings once so tall,
And I'll show you a young land with so many reasons why
There but for fortune, go you or go I -- you and I.
You and I,
There but for fortune, go you or go I -- you and I. |

Call me heartless, but they're not getting anything from me. Well, some food maybe, but not money. Show me a charity organization (legitimate one) and then I'll consider giving. |

Can you imagine if you gave some spare change to just one of them?
The others would pounce like rabid unwashed sharks. |

My friend tried once out of Zapata. All of them came to him. Eventually, he gave every beggar some TIPS for their waiting for at midnight, saying Merry Christmas! I couldnt stop laughing at the moment. |

i have no doubt that there are some exceptional beggars who might earn that much. but that's not how much a common beggar makes.
even it's true, it just shows that people has heart, humanity has not died. |

calculate this! If there are say 18 million and even if just 1/10th made a normal salary then how much can a beggar really make?
1.8 million with normal salary and if 1/1000 of them gave a coin
1800 yuan per DAY |

I always feel very sorry for elder people who have to beg as they really receive nothing from the government. And even though for example in Moscow there were many TV programs telling that it is all mafia, poor beggars get nothing at the end, I still give but only if i feel that a person is sincere and that he/she is in need of money. Even if I know that the very same person will drink it all afterwards.
It probably also comes from my concsience that I would never wish to be at their place, even if they earn that much as according to bravojohnny's calculations .
Merry Christmas!!! |

i once asked a bagger inside the people's park how much she can get a day, she told me no less than 30 rmb, it's 1000 rmb a month, same as the migrant workers who working the butt off in construction site in shanghai, some of them even back home with no money only a credit note by the contractor, what a world! |

Hey ! If you feel like you should be donating money and feel that if you give it to beggers in the street they are either ripping you off, or are earning too much money then just send me a PM I will be more than happy to take your lose change, Cheques (as long as support by a valid bankers card), VISA payments etc. |

once i gave a male beggar (actually pretty young and healthy guy) a coin of "jiao".. really couldn't find any "kuai" though.. he looked at it and gave me a bitter look and complained to me.. he didn't let me go and kept following me and begging for more.. it really annoyed me.. he was grabbing my arm for more while holding the coin i just gave him.. and since he really drove me mad.. i turned back and took away that coin from his hand.. he was completely shocked. but since he complained about it.. then why not just take it back so he could probably feel better.. so finally he didn't follow me.. but i heard him screaming at me behind.. well.. serve him right.. but i was still mad.. |
