| Post subject: Game Machine...What to Buy? |
Need some assistance regarding game machines. I have a friend who will be at home recovering from an illness, and thought I would get him some kind of game machine, but I really have no experience with these things. It needs to be computer independent, as he’s not very computer friendly. So my question is what kind of a system, and what games would be of interest to a person in their 40’s? Also, whatever system/games would need to be purchased locally (Shanghai). I was thinking of something that's displayed via the TV, and not one of those handheld devices.
In advance - thanks |

I think it should be either Sony Play station 2 or micrsoft xbox. I think the sony might be more popular, and they both play on a tv |

Okay, say I consider either of these units, are there different models? And what software is available, as I said, for someone who is not a youngster, and is it all available in Shanghai? If yes, where?
Thanks |

Ok SHMSPAC,
The Sony Play Station has a version 1 (several yrs old) and the Play Station 2 (PS2) is maybe a year old or so. It comes with at least one controller and you can buy a whole lot of accessories you can get for it (guns, steering wheels, the list goes on). Its also a dvd player, so you can get a remote for it. The games look like normal cd's. You can get it with a chip, which I think means you can save information on it. |

Generally speaking, the xbox is more technically advanced but the ps2 is more popular.
a chipped ps2(means it can play the copy games) sells for around 1500-1700rmb out here and comes with 2 controllers. you will still need to purchase a memory card so you can save game information, you can get them for around 50rmb. the fake games should cost no more than 5-10rmb.
big question is, what games would a 40 y/o like to play? |

I would consider games like sports, first person shooting games, maybe racing...i'm not too far from 40 and that's what I'd look at. |

I always recommend the ps2, as the quantity and the quality of games is just amazing and by far much better than what is available for the x-box
Go with games like : Fifa2005, Prince Persia 2, GTA SanAndreas, Need for Speed Underground 2, Call of Duty, Killzone, and you have THE games on the market at the moment. Depending on what your friend likes you can buy more games later... |
