Post subject: SP 2?? Is it shite?

I recently installed SP2 after I received a Microsoft update message advising me that I should.

After doing this I found that my computer slowed down dramatically and that I could not open Outlook.

I've heard a few bad things about this update and just wondered if anyone else had probs with it.

applications did not run slower than before ....

i ran it for about 2 weeks before i un-installed it. there was a conflict between one of the recommended updates i had already installed and the new SP2 causing my internet to run really slow. once i found out what it was i re-installed and its been fine ever since, or as fine as windows XP can be.

Mate, honestly, if you must use Microsoft, Win2000 is the way to go.

XP is shite, pure and simple.

Why is XP shite? I like it. I've not had much of a problem apart from adding SP2. Why is windows 2k better?

The way 2K is built is better. Better security, stability, etc. XP just tries to do everything for everyone and look pretty at the same time. 2K was designed with corporate, government and military contracts in mind and that's it. In addition to the fact that it is a better design, add the fact that it has been around long enough to find many of the flaws that did exist, and fix 'em. Plus it doesn't talk to Microsoft behind your back (probably, but there is that little matter of port 1002... hmmm).

My PC has been a mess ever since I installed SP2.

One day I booted up and nothing worked. My user profile had been changed in a way that I could no longer open any programs let alone MS Outlook.

I will be wiping my whole hard drive this weekend and reinstalling.

Don't install SP2.

Because only PC users get so frustrated with life that they want to cause mass destruction.
Mac users are always "nice" people like school teachers and graphics designs.

I have SP2 and I haven't had any problems with it...

I have had more problems with XP in general...what a pack of shite it is...

...and Mac's have less problem because there are so few Mac users. Well, that's the easy version. There are a few more but that's the easy one. If you want to do as much damage as possible with a virus then why create it for a platform which only holds about 3% of the market share (2003)

Well, I've not had any MAJOR problems with XP. I've had more probs with the hardware than anything else.

How much would Windows 2000 cost here? A couple of rmb?

I have had no problems with XP Pro... But after installing the new Media Player 10, i find that my 'original' songs are affected. The instruments come out fine... but the singer's voice can't be heard.. So watch out.

Not really, a virus actually does something.
