Post subject: Peach Blossom's Year or Widow's Year

The year of 2005 in Chinese lunar calendar is called “Peach Blossom’s Year”, and “ Widow’s Year” as well, cause this year hasn’t the solarterm of spring begins.

Chinese has the tradition of enjoying and eating peach, but there’re little person know the derivation of peach. Why does it look like a heart divided into two parts? Why it has a hard core? And why can we eat the peach just after it be soft and red? It originated from a deplorable romance……

Three thousands years ago, there were a few households lived in a quiet village in the northern China. A brave and laborious youngster lived in the top of the mountain, called TaoZi, be popular by villagers because of his warmheart. And a girl lived in the mountainside, called XiaoMei, she’s good at singing and dansing with intelligence and beautiful appearance. TaoZi always met the girl to chat and sing with her. There were cheerful chatting and laughing between them often when they got together. And then the special emotion came insensibly, and they were falling in love with eachother. But XiaoMei knew she’s the floral fairy of god, she would go back to the heaven soon. She loved TaoZi deeply, and was afraid of her leaving would upset the life of TaoZi, even hurt him. So one day, she told to TaoZi icily,” Actually I prefer the stronger and grimmer man, u seems be not enough strong cause u can’t control your emotion. And I would love u as long as u can inhibit the love to me.” And after that, she met TaoZi no longer.

The talk by XiaoMei imprinted deeply in TaoZi’s heart. He’s in a dilemma wether to love her or not. If he show his love and missing, XiaoMei don’t like this. Or if he refrain from this emotion, he would lose XiaoMei also. His face became pale, his heart fell into the hell full of seething and icy feeling sometimes.

One day he came across XiaoMei, and told his pain to her. He said, “My heart became colder and harder, how deep I love u, how hard my heart is. Dear, I can’t believe u don’t like me, I just wanna see wether your heart is as cold as mine because of love.”

Then life is nothing to them. They took away each cold heart to prove eachother and then died together. With that, “ love is colder than heart” became the topic metioned by people with tears. The villagers sighed with their emotion, and buried them together. At that night, it’s heavy thunder and shower all along. They dare not go out to see what happened, just heared the sound of raindrop beating on the path.

The next day, it’s fair and rain stoped, the villagers saw there was a little tree full of pink blossoms grew from the grave. Originally the body of TaoZi became the trunk, and villagers called the tree TaoShu, ie. peach tree to memorize TaoZi. As for XiaoMei, she became the peach blossom and then her soul flied into the heaven. The goddess let her be peach queen dedicated to help the human beings seeking for true love.

The same summer, they found suprisely that the tree was full of fruits which looked like two hearts combined together tightly. And some person knowing the story are afraid of hurting the peach tree, always pick off the fruit after they be soft and red. Anyhow there’s a core to protect the hard heart. After this year, people always make the peach blossom symbolize love, and use the peach wood to avoid the evil.
