Post subject: Setting up HK company from shanghai

What is the best way to set up a HK company from Shanghai. It is for someone who wants to operate a business in Shanghai with an overseas base.

How much does it cost to set up the company? Any other problems, pitfalls, warnings, etc?

It is a complicated process. U won't be able to register unless the project get go-ahead from the overseas investment authority. It also hinges on which business u r dealing with. Shanghai is now very harsh on investment in service, say advertising and shipping agency.

Cost is not a big concern. U need to deposit minimum capital into a bank and the bank freezes it for one month. After u could withdraw it. Normally ur major costs include office rent and employee compensation plus other operation cost...

But I am wondering whether u want a company or just a liaison office.

That makes a big difference in the paper works but an office may function the same as a company.
