| Post subject: Mainland-Taiwan direct flights |
So it was announced today that direct flights will be allowed between Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Taipei, Kaohsiung. According to reports it will only be for "businessmen," and will operate between 1/29 and 2/29.
Does anyone have information on how I can get one of these tickets? |

The dates are actually 1/29-2/20, and the flights have to go through HK or Macao airspace, although they do not have to land. There will be 48 flights total, and the local airlines are still applying for the rights.
That's the latest I heard, but still haven't seen where I can actually get on one of these flights. |

No idea where to buy the tickets but ... the absolute precondition is that you are a Taiwanese businessperson or a close relative.
Other people are not allowed on board, not even Taiwanese just studying in China, and that is NOT going to change!
Six Chinese and six Taiwanese airlines will be operating the flights, so in Shanghai, I guess you should contact China Eastern or Air China. |
