I plan to work in Shanghai soon, and of course I hope to do meet nice persons 
I heard so many things about girls in Shanghai : are they really so superficial ? are they looking for foreign mens only for money and go abroad ?
Is there a special way of mind in Shanghai, different of other cities in China ?

Half of the girls in shanghai nowadays are not native.Some of them may not be superficial at all.But generally speaking,Girls in shanghai are not as interesting as in Beijing.At least I think so. |

Hi Steven, there is a Chinese idiom, \"wu yi lei ju\" , means birds of a feather flock together. If you are a nice and straight person, you will surely attract nice girl. Chinese girls also heard many things about foreign guys: Are they really so open and make girlfriends everywhere?

Good point!
2 sides of story should be heard in all cases. There are always good and bad people out there. That is life, isn\'t it.
It is very difficult to make a simple definition of Shanghainese girls, as 3 out of 5 people living in Shanghai are from other regions of China. Personally, I feel Shanghainese girls are quite sophisticated.
Be yourself and keep your objectivities. You always can find what you want.

How you define \"nice girls\"???
according to \"wu yi lei ju\", you should ask yourself: why Expats will meet the Bad Material girls?? If i have understood \"wu yi lei ju\" correctly, those Expats should be \"Bad Material guys\"??
eh, It\'s true. the Expats are always the targets to the \"gold hunter(Bad Material gals)\".
 hmm, i think i\'d better shut up now.and try to not speak so much English, therefore, i CAN get to the \"majority who speak little English\"....

English is compulsory subject to Chinese kids from 6th grade in primary school. Some kids even start learning it before going to primary school. Also, majority kids go to evening English classes after school or during summer or winter holidays.Therefore, Chinese young people at least have 8year English education before going to university. So, the foundation is solid.
According to your thoery, almost all the girls with at least 8 year English education are bad. How many bad girls are out there?! scary! It makes me to start worrying the future of China.
If you speak to them patiently and approach nicely, you will find it is not difficult to communicate with nice girls.

thanks to everyone for your reply. I see that we can speak long hours about chinese girls  this is the proof that they are interresting people !
maybe some of them rely on foreign bussiness men for change their life, have a better future... but it is not so bad : everybody in the world dream about a better life. The most important is to be honest about our goals.

Everyone may have a different idea of \"NICE\" or \"little English\". Maybe mine is out-of-tune with some of you -
Dunbabe , your description of 8 years\' English education majority is in my books - \"little English\"; and Yes, I do have patients communicating with the nicer females! And, of course most men prefer an easy bad girl, when they are just on visits to SH (definition of an Expat is a non-permanent visitor).
Mint , Would agree that most men (Expat or otherwise) are just plain BAD. |

Well,,, I have been here for 1.5 years. Unlike many I speak Chinese. It certianly is the stereo type. that SH girls only want money or passport and most western men, have 6 girlfriends...
It is my impressions that the Shanghai culture is one extreme of Chinese culture and that in fact women here in SH judge a man by his wallet and hieght. It is my current predudice that all Sh girls are like this...however....
I do not have multiple gfs at the same time, not do I lie about my intentions.
If I am an exception to the white mail norm...then there could exist a Shanghai girl who values love and trust and relationship.
I currently only date girls from other parts of China. |

From my observations living here...Shanghainese girls are smart as hell. They know exactly what they want and how to get it. Nothing wrong with this as I always feel people with like minds and like intentions with somehow find each other. Like anywhere, there are good girls and there are not so good girls.
If I were new to this city, I would first think about how to meet a good group of friends because quality friends in this transient city can feel a little hard to come by when you\'re new in town. Then finding a nice girl won\'t be so difficult since you\'ll probably meet some while hanging out with friends -- much more fun than being the loner at an expat bar who\'s wondering why the girl you\'re talking to in pink has chosen to name herself Coco or Fifi.
4 years here now...and I\'ve got a good group of guy friends who have met some nice girls...and those not so nice will have to deal with a very nosy, borderline obnoxious ABC girl who acts a little bitchier than usual towards flaky girls with bad intentions because at the end of the day, she\'s just looking out for her friends. ha ha |

...many married chinese men AND non-chinese men who sleep around in Shanghai need to seriously get a clue! i personally don\'t care where they park their cars on the weekends or when they\'re over here on business trips (if you know what i mean). i just think it\'s seriously irresponsible to think that all bets are off in a city where you can be pretty anonymous and live the \"i\'m a cool guy and all the girls suddently want me\" type life. why? because of how IGNORANT people here are about STD\'s and nasty stuff that\'s spreading around. why any supposedly decent man would want to mess with this kind of stuff and bringing it back to his wife is beyond me.
sorry if it sounds like i\'m preaching...but just imagine this as a typical example...man vacations in thailand...picks up a few STDs...flies back to shanghai...goes to his favorite KTV...gives STD to KTV girl...who has 3 boyfriends...a shanghainese man, a taiwanese guy and an american guy...who have wives at home that take care of the kids and look after the family...who get the nasty STD all because their husbands are working really really hard as successful businessmen bringing home the bacon. this is not an example by the way...it happens. everywhere in the world to some extent, but i\'ve been more aware of it living here in shanghai.
\"oh...but i\'m not stupid, i use condoms...and technically it\'s not really cheating if you use a condom\"...dumb asses. ha ha. go back to high school and see what they\'re teaching in Sex 101 these days.
i don\'t get why these men can\'t find another way to feel good about themselves and their status in life. insecurity is a monster that haunts us all in life at one point or another...but why take it out on the wife and kids and the so called sanctity of marriage? why be married at all and bring innocent victims into their nasty STD merry go round? maybe because at the end of the day, they need to go home to someone who actually cares about them? i don\'t get it.

So what is ur intentions? within 1.5 year got 6 Gfs. How can u know them well just in such a short time? it is not wrong that a girl prefer the man who have a good job and income? hehe, u should spend more time on understanding SH girls, i am sure most of them are worth to be loved.
what ur current opinion is quite to by holding extreme views. obviously just choise other part of chinese girls is limilt.

They share a not so richful, but a happy life. Well, Steve, I believe you can find a real good girl. you know, if you want to meet nice gal, you\'d better go to university.
But usually, Expats go to bars for meeting gals.
there are lots expats who are just looking for short-term relationship or we say that sex. bad girl here may hv one-night stand with them, which they pretty enjoy it.
and it is really easy to find these kind of gals in pubs.
So how can good nice shanghai gal trust these white faces!

Dunno about true love, but I found a great bar on Sat night. Toonz were top and the Manageress was lovely. Unfortunately, she introduced us to something called Kamikazi [should\'ve known really, shouldn\'t I ?].
The results weren\'t pretty
Sunday was a bit...erm.... subdued !
But, the \"pub\" was superb. Chances are I\'ll never find it again !! |
