Post subject: ADSL connection on windows 98-how to set up?

HI,
need help:
I installed a 10/100 fast ethernet card on my windows 98 and am unable to connect to the internet via ADSL, does anyone know what are the correct steps to take? I already have the adsl connection on XP. I would like to use the same cable to connect to windows 98.

Alternatively, does anyone know how to connect the router to windows 98 and the XP?

thanks
pchia

your best bet is to get some techie to give you a hand if your thinking about using a router and stuff... that's what I did and everything works fine for 50RMB hehe

incidently, anyone know how to check the actual speed of the adsl, if its 128kbps or whatever. Not sure why but I do feel my adsl could be faster, maybe its because I'm accessing webpages in the states or something but it sometimes does take a minute or so lol... also worried that my provider is not giving me all the speed I pay for and just cheating me Sad

From your post, I figure that you have at least 2 computers.
One is running XP and another one is running Windows 98. Right?

I assume your XP box connects to ADSL perfectly fine. And, you tried to use the same cable used by your XP box, to connect to your Windows 98 box for ADSL connection but it did not work?
You can try this : http://ca.huji.ac.il/services/internet/connect/adsl/pppoe98.shtml

Try some software called WinPoET. or Enternet 300.

Both are PPPoE, are available free on the net.

Got this problem fixed?
First, you should make sure your ethernet card be reconginzed by Win98(Install driver).
Then install the WinPPPoE software which provided by ISP(ADSL install package).
Reboot and configure your TCP/IP protocal on the properity of your card. (IP--192.168.1.1. 255.255.255.0. Gateway: 192.168.1.2) You can find these number on your XP and reentry it.
