Just know your price before you go in.

Tell them the price you want. Don't negotiate, just tell them.

If they ask how much, say it again. No joking price? Say it again.

Walk out and buy it elsewhere if they don't accept.

Hey Thanks for all the info on this forum. I went to Tong Yang Market today and bought the following and wanted to know if I got good deals:

2 polo "cashmere" sweaters= 200 rmb
2 boss turtle necks "cashmere" = 200 rmb
1 burberry long sleve= 50 rmb
5 "cashmere" scarfs = 100 rmb
1 duck down polo jacket= 200 rmb
????????

I am also wanting to purchase a few watches and a guy brought me in his back room and started looking in all these secret places. What should I pay for them??

Also,

quality leather wallet?
Ed Hardy Sweater?
Ed Hardy Polo?
medium size D&G duffle bag?
4 Tailor made suits?

Thanks in advance

For men polo cashmere, no more than 60rmb.
for women, aroun 30-40rmb
winter long sleeves shirts, good quality, 50-60rmb.
scarves: 10 to 15rmb, depends on the quality. 40rmb for that ones that look like hand painted, their quality is very good.
anything that I buy, I never, ever pay more than 120rmb.
remember that for polos, shirts, cashmere or not, doesn't matter the brand, cause they just change the brand for you if you want! (yes, they cutted away and another one there, if you ask them.

We are staying on the corner of Shan Xi Road South & Nanjing Road at the City Hotel Shanghai, at the end of June 08.

My wife wants good quality handbags by the usual suspects Prada, LV, Gucci etc, and wallets, branded clothes, where can we go o get decent quality stuff?

I have read that the old Xiang Ying market has moved to the Science & Technology museum, is this a good place to get decent quality stuff?? And where else can we go, we plan on traveling by taxi everywhere.

or you can email me on filipe.lai@hotmail.com

Hi - this question for the pros- where and how much for a pair of cloth or silk shoes (the traditional kind with chinese embroidery or plain. The ones I see are usually in the boutique shops going for 100-200 RMB. Would I be able to find them in the S&T market?
Thanks.

I'm pretty sure this is a good deal. I got DS games for 90 RMB at the Science and Tech. market.

...and this was the lowest I could go.

I bought 2 pairs of the silk embroidered shoes for rmb 125 (62.5 each pair) at the S@T museum recently but it was tough. I had a little time on my hands and was really more interested in honing my Chinese language skills than buying the shoes so it took me at least 15 minutes to get that price.

Watch prices appear to be dropping. The Cartier/Longines/Patek can now easily be bought for for rmb75 so there is probably still a little room there to play. The well made Rolex for rmb 115 (good quality finish, crystal with magnified date, working day/date, tight band links, PVD finish and of course triple signed). I recently bought 7 watches among 3 vendors. If the shop owns the watch a good price can be had. If a person runs to another store because they know the watch you want is there and comes back with it, price goes sky high.

Zhengjiang doesn't have anywhere to buy fakes... What are you talking about?

They have had the inspection all over the last few weeks anyway, so any hawkers that may have been there are gone. And they didn't have fakes or clothes to begin with.

If you pick up a Rolex and pay 700 for it rather than bargaining down to 100, it doesn't make that watch any better.

Like this only could create the vicious circle, the price is has been cheap, the thing quality also reduced. Merchant's profit is cannot not be willing to reduce.

In most fake markets you hold the item in your hand while bargaining. Thus while bargaining the quality of the item you are bargaining for does not decrease. and the merchant's profit is reduced.

Are you honestly telling me you walk into a fake market and pay full price?
