Post subject: Internet Lockdown

Does anyone else have internet available in their office? I work in a 30 + or - person american architecture/design office and we do not have internet available at every desk. Only the privledged few are granted access. Apparently my office is very worried about people not doing their work if they have access to the internet. As an interior designer from NY...I am getting used to a lot of things in this 3 week in Shanghai. It's very different to say the least. Not different-bad, just different-different. Also, I do not have a good internet connection on my laptop either. At a coworkers advice I bought this special card ( even though my computer already has an internal wireless motem) which has a sim card, and I can use it for about a year until I have to renew the sim card. The connection is pretty poor though. It is much better then my office, whose internet reminds me of the days when everyone had dial up America Online 10 years ago. My wireless connection is still really slow compared to NY, and I paid 3600 RMB for a mildly good connection. Does anyone have good internet? Am I the only fool dealing with this issue?

If you are in Jing An District, you might want to go to 1001 Xinzha Lu (Tai Hing Lu) at the South West Corner. There's an internet cafe on the ground floor the entrance is on Tai Hing Lu. They sometimes stay open 24 hrs. They charge 3rmb-5rmb, depending on the type of monitor per hr. The connections are fairly decent, but the keyboards stick like hell due to overuse. Beware of smoke too, especially on weekends. My sister was just there, so this report is fairly current. Very Happy
