Looks like XiJiaHui at night is the way to move forward. I presume they have lights at night right?
When? |

Let's say 8:00pm starting this coming up Wednesday. I can't guarantee that I can make it because I live in Pudong but if someone can make it for sure, let us know what you look like and what you will be wearing so we can meet. I don't know how busy it is there and whether it is easy to get a court or if we need to win one. If so, we can meet, try to get a team together and hold court somewhere. |

Me.
Just one thing: what time do the courts close? How much time does starting at 8PM give us? |

I said 8pm for selfish reasons. Better chance for me to show up. If the lights go off very early, let's move up the time. Rolento, can you stroll by there at 9:30pm Monday night and tell us if the lights are still on at that time. Try to stay until 10pm if they are. Also, please give us an update as to how busy it is at that time of night. Don't worry about it if you don't have time to do this.
I haven't checked the forecast but obviously don't show up if it's raining. |

Hopefully Rolento will be able to check out the scene for us Wednesday nights and report back. If someone wants to play and has a better suggestion, get it up there. |

Well, although not a free alternative, most schools would be willing to rent their facilities at off hours.
Perhaps we could investigate the cost of that?
Further, in front of Big Bamboo there is this sports hall where I used to play, company sponsored. Perhaps we could also check prices there as well.
They have lighting, it's not subject to the elements, a very good court. If the costs are not too high I would go for certainty, and also avoid the crowds (assuming this is unwanted)...
Just a suggestion... |

If we have a core group that is willing to pay for it each week with the understanding that no one may show up on a given week, that would take care of the lighting problem and guarantee us court time when we schedule it. I'm willing to do it depending on the cost. Henry, I'm sure we would all appreciate it if you could check into those two options for us.
In the meantime, let's go ahead with Xujiahui this Wednesday contingent upon Rolento's report back to us. It's so hard to get anything actually started in these threads, so let's just schedule it and see who shows up and try to build on it. |

If you guys find a time on a weekend with the indoor hall near the Big Bamboo/Portman, count me in... cost dependent as well.
Sorry, can't make week nights.

Guys, sorry but I live a bit far away from Big Bamboo now and it's a bit hard for me to get there.
Appreciate if anyone close to it could check it out for me.
Will investigate the school thing though.
Tks,
HC. |

I'm up for a secluded experience, 1-2 hours of matches, shoot-around etc. Skills are rusty, need the practice.
Henry - do you have/can you get contact details to hire this hall? My Mandarin skills = zip, so a walk-by wouldn't do any good.
(I struggle ordering dim sum from the street vendors - this could be too much for me - language lessons start mid-week, hence I can't make it).
The hall sounds good (well, its close to home), plus there's a handy warm down area right across the road...

I have a ball but am not guaranteed since we are targeting a Puxi location but I will bring it if I can make it. It would be a good idea for someone else to bring one as well. The basketballs here are really inexpensive and appear to be pretty decent quality. I got a good one from Decathalon for $7US.
I will do everything I can to try to make Xujiahui on Wednesday night and report back. No worries if I'm the only one, I'll just shoot around and let everyone know how many people are there and how long the lights stay on.
In the meantime, Henry will check on the school and we'll see if anyone volunteers to check out the hall by bamboo. My Mandarin is pretty lame too. |

Finally! A recreational basketball thread! My friend n I have been playing in Xu Jia Hui Park with the locals every week. Since i speak Mandarin, i can help out with communication problems if there r any. Count me in on WED night. Btw, forget abt 8 pm, the court closes at 9 pm, it's better to come at 7pm, n be prepared to share a court with the locals. PM me ur numbers for those who r coming on WED. N i may be able to bring a ball too.
See everyone there! |

Wednesday I'll be there at 7:00 sharp. Should we all meet by the gate at 7:00? I know the crowd is local so we should stick out like sore thumbs, but I'm thinking it might make things run more smoothly. |

I can't make it at 7:00 but I'll try to get there as quick as I can. I have a ball but someone else better bring one since I'll be a little late. I'm assuming, then, to look for a group of western guys playing with the locals by the time I get there. |
