| Post subject: infant supplies |
Hello all,
I've read through all the posts in this section and found them to be very helpful! I'm not due for 6 more months, but will be going back to the US in July to stock up on baby items, so I am in the process of figuring out what I can get here and what I need to get at home. I've found some good stores so far, but the main thing I am looking for right now is a bassinette. We are only going to be here for about 3-4 months after the baby is born, so I'm hoping to get away without having to get a crib here. I don't know if that will work though. Anyways, does anyone know of where a bassinette could be found?
Also, there was a recent post by username MahamYe about a car seat you might be interested in selling? I know it's early to be buying things, but I might be willing to take the chance to avoid having to get one in the US and lug it back here! If you are still interested in selling, could you let me know?
Thanks very much in advance for any assistance! |

hi, expat 2005
we didn't find a basinnette necessary, we thought we'd use one, but after she was born we discovered we wanted our baby to sleep with us. But if you opt for the bassinette, I have seen them (at Orient, I think?)
We have had no trouble finding nearly all necessities here. But there are a couple of things:
Baby Sunscreen/Sunglasses
Natural mosquito repellants (but Aromakids line of natural products is now available--call Gillian at 13816676934 or moultmcilroy@yahoo.com)
I always wanted one of those baby jumpers that hangs in a doorway. They're not available here.
that's it, I think! Good luck! |

Hi Expat2005,
I have just sent you a PM regarding the car seat.
Lioralourie's list is great...I would also add baby medicine- Infant Tylenol, Mylicone Drops, etc. I have not found there products here and they are very handy to have around the house. |

We wanted a basinette too but couldn't find one that would work. We ended up doing the same and having our baby boy sleep with us by using a pair of wedges that go on either side of him. They work great because it keeps him from rolling away and it prevents you from rolling over on your baby.

If you're only going to be here for a couple of months after your baby comes you could use a carry-cot thing for him to sleep in. I don't know whether you can get them in the US (or here) but you can get some very portable ones in Europe that are also great for having on planes. When we first got here before our 5 month old's bed arrived, she just slept on the floor next to our bed. We didn't like and she didn't like being in bed with us |

Hi everyone,
I want to say a big THANK YOU for all of your replies, very helpful to a first time future Mom!
I really appreciate your time and advice and will keep checking back in and will probably have more questions to ask.
One thing I wanted to pass on, I saw at the City Market today a sign advertising a sale called Bumps to Babes where they will be selling used baby and children items, clothes, supplies, etc. It is on June 3rd from 10:30am-2:30pm at The Clubhouse, Windsor Place, 2222 Jianhe Rd. Hongqiao. This may be helpful to some of you!
Thanks again! |

Hi Expat2005,
Congratulations on the Baby! I wonder if a Pack 'N Play may work for you. They usually be used as bassinet/2nd crib, changing table, and playyard. Even if the baby ends up sleeping with you, the Pack 'N Play can still be useful for other functions. And you can bring it back to your home country when you leave Shanghai.
Both of my children spent their first few months sleeping in the bassinette of the Pack 'N Play before they moved to their own cribs. It worked well for my family and I hope it will work for you.
The attached link will give you some ideas about the Pack 'N Play:

Good luck. |
