| Post subject: How can I check if my employer have been paying my tax?? |
I work at an international school and have been here for almost a year.
I pay tax every month but I never get a receipt, not an oficial one fron the government at least, but if I do ask, they can print something out in the office - which doesn't mean anything caus I can do this myself .
Was wondering if there is an agency in Shanghai I can call and maybe give them my passp. number and they would be able to tell me if I have been paying tax??? |

I'd like to know this too. My former employer was cheating on mandatory welfare contributions for the local staff (i.e., taking the housing-fund money out of their salaries, but not paying it into the fund). I'd hate to find out they did the same thing with my Individual Income Tax. |

You should be given an official reciept-with chops-stating your salary and taxes. We are given them monthly by our Finance department, although there is a one month delay before recieve them (iE we get Feb. reciepts in April).
If you are not receiving these reciepts I would be very suspicious, especially as you need them to legally transfer a portion of your salary out of the country (assuming you are paid in RMB and not by a parent entity abroad). |

The company is obligated to provide you with the tax receipts if you ask for them. If you need an "excuse" to insist they must give them to you, you could say your government is asking this otherwise you may be taxed twice. They should be able to provide all the receipts from your first month of employment. If they refuse, you could tell them you are going to contact the tax office directly, and see their reaction. If no reaction, I suggest you get a Chinese friend to contact the tax office for you. Companies cheating on tax can get in very serious trouble. |

Tell your employer that you want to send money out of China. To do this (legally) you must have an official government tax receipt. If they cannot supply one to you I would get suspicious. |
