Post subject: GeoffOz Welcome Party

Let's face it, this lad has to be the most anticipated arrival of the year in our little city of Shanghai.

We need some more Aussies here too. Kiwis starting to take over the joint. All walking around, telling people they are Aussies b/c they are sick of saying "New Zealand, just east of Australia".

Let's throw him a huge welcome party!! I can put on the Fosters, Coopers and BBQ at Senses.

Mate, when is the arrival? I need some time to Warn the Sheilas, and throw a few shrimp on the barbie

Mat, I am moved. In fact, I haven't been this overwhelmed since the house was invaded by that family of possums.

Mate, I leave my stretch of shark infested beach and arrive in Shanghai late Sunday night 12 June. I would be more than happy to add to the Aussie contingent over there after this time. A bit of a worry about those Kiwis though. [I mean, is there any left back home?]

I first logged in here just to find out where I could get a decent beer, wine, pizza, pasta, etc. [You understand - all of the basic food items]. However, it has become something far bigger than that for me. I discovered a thriving little [?] social network, which is terrific because I basically need that to retain any of my remaining sanity.

I was already looking forward to meeting the people I got to know online, including yourself Mat. Your generous and kind offer provides an opportunity to do just that. Besides, any old excuse for a party.

Thanks mate and looking forward to it...

Welcome, dude. The thriving social network was just that last sunday, and you'll get plenty of chances to do the same when you get here.

Another reason for getting slaughtered.

Shanghai, I've found out is probably the hardest place to give up drinking.

Can't believe I said that.

Ok...shopping list for GeoffOz to bring over for us other exiled Oz citizens here.

For me.
1 - A sunday newspaper. Preferably Sunday Herald Sun

2 - 17kg of Cadbury Peppermint Chocolate. (17kg carry on baggage limit?)

3 - 2 slabs of Boags Premium... mmmmm...boags.

4 - Traffic rule books for the taxi drivers here. Yes, in Oz we drive on the different side of the road and indeed sit on the other side of the car, but hey, will still be better than how they drive here now.

5 - Episodes of The Footy Show. Aussie Rules version of course.

thanks mate, will pick them up from you when you get here.

I have about 5kg of Jaffas here at the moment.... although one night with Edgewood, Caesara and Magnolia all downing our Jaffa Martinis will soon put a finish to that.

While I adore, adore, adore the martini, you don't have to share the Jaffa's with me! Save them!

My list includes:

Magazines (Cosmo, Marie Claire, Glamour)

But I don't want you to use up any precious luggage space... on this trip, at least!

I know most of this stuff. I'll see what I can do.

Jaffa Candies? Are they the round ones with choc inside? Used to roll them on the floor in the theatre before they put in carpet.

Jaffa Cakes? I have no idea what these are. Are they related to the Jaffa Candies? More info please.

Add Vogue to the magazine list, pretty please?

The International Passport.

However, if luggage space is at a premium, please alternately feel free to say "Bugger off, I need space for my socks!"

Smile

[edited to say: Apparently, Jaffa cakes are like Jaffa candies, but they're bigger...and look like little tea cakes? Have never seen one either. But have been hearing rave reviews...!]

OK, physical description needed here. Born & raised in Oz mainly in Melbourne [although recent years spent in Ocean Grove] to Southern European parents, hence olive skin. Not as dark skinned as the natives but can get close during the summer. Height: 173cm; Weight: 75kg; Hair: Sadly, in decline; Eye colour: Brown [But tends to change depending on how much I've drunk].

You can't miss me...I'll be the one wearing the "Make The World A Better Place - Hug A Possum Today" t-shirt...

Moto babes. That is so bloody funny...

GeoffOz. We are joking mate, bring your own gear. Don't be bringing rubbish for people you don't even know.

You get 10/10 for being a Melbourne lad, but I'm afraid I have to deduct points for being an Ocean Grove tossa now.... Party cancelled!!

No worries, having a great laugh here. I'll see what I can do. I feel like I know everyone already.

Besides I have most of Fidel's items laying around the house anyway...

Wouldn't it be great if I could? It's a great combo along that strip.

Good news for Jaffa Cake lovers: Found in supermarket.

Fidel, did you want the May or the June edition of Moto Babes ?

Jaffa Candies [or Jaffas] are the round, orange coated, chocolate filled gems which are delicious. They are often let loose to roll down uncarpeted picture theatre aisles during a crucial moment in the film. Unfortunately, most theatres are now carpeted which sort of takes the fun out of it. They are nice to eat as well. Just bought some from supermarket. On the way...
