I LOVE football , definitely comes first on the list . Rugby and IceHockey come in a close second and that's it then.
Cant do much with Formula 1 and Cricket |

We used to play Chinese cricket when I was working in some of the more remote areas where they don't see many westerners. The way it works is that when someone cycles past they would usually stare at us on the pavement. This would sometimes affect their cycling and so the scoring worked; you score 1 run if they wobble, 4 runs if they put their foot down and 6 runs if they hit something (which fortunately didn't happen too often but it was known).
Other than that I love football (as football fans can tell from my name) but I prefer playing rugby which I played for 15 years. |

I always thought it was hammeredforlife , never associated it with the hammers
Rugby is not very popular in Germany , I only started to follow it when I moved to Hong Kong, but eversince , love it . Not too hard to get the rules, the only thing that confuses me , is that there seem to be a thousand of different competitions and every country has like three or four national teams ?!?!?! |

Touch Hockey? what's that? hahaha... j/k. I think I saw a mention of something simillar in Thats Shanghai last month, but I havn't looked into it. If anyone knows more about it I'd be very interested to get some details. Right now i'm just kiling time until winter when i'm back in Canada and I can get back onto the ponds. (Oh, and to despell a popular belief, Canada isn't frozen all year. Most of the year yes... but not all year.) |

And great skiing in Canada too when it is in the cold season, so that must go down as a favourite sport as well, although there is not much skiing in Xujiahui |

NASCAR is NOT yet a sport. It is a spectacle!!
Cricket, and football (Oval ball, men in shorts, no padding. ie Aussie Rules).
That's what it's 'bout |

I assume that you live in Xujiahui, right? Case yes, it is very convenient for you to trip to XinZhuang (莘庄) for skiing by subway. I remember there is a big place for skiing named "银七莘滑雪场" in XinZhuang, not so sure about the English name, "silver seven stars" perhaps. My friend is a frequenter there and I hear about it is a ok place. Anyway just offer some information.
Favourite sport? Must be basketball. Long live Shaquille O'neal! |

American football has been my favourite to watch, and favourite to play when growing up.
I do like watching the World Cups, F1 and the Tour de France (for various reasons).
I can skip tennis, unless one of the Russian/Ukranian babes serves it up.
Basketball doesn't interest me at all.
But downhill skiing, I love it. |

Football followed by F1 and snooker.
Sad thing is in China is that you can never go to enough games. We started watching Shenhua last season but the standard was rubbish and then it got too hot to sit and watch them.
Also, being Scottish we never get the games on television and i need to rely on the internet for radio commentary. I tried the streaming option but never liked it that much, too many young chinese playing online games and slowing down the adsl. O'Malleys and British Bulldog have shown a handful of scottish games in the last year. |

Soccer and basketball.
For anyone interested in playing basketball we play every Thrusday and Sunday in Monk's place. Pretty competitive matches, good court too. |

On the tube: American Football followed by Football (Soccer).
Plus any championship matches of almost any sport (NBA, NHL, MLB...etc).
Except car racing. I just cant get into the cars.
To practice: anything solo...running/track & field, rock climbing, surfing, skiing.
I get into team sports only if its non-competitive and beer is involved. |

I enjoy many different sports but if I had to pick only one as a favourite, it would have to be Aussie Rules football.
Four quarters, oval ball, oval field, fast moving, high scoring [usually] and very athletic. Players require skill and fitness, don't use padding, wear tight shorts [which may explain why the sport is also quite popular with women] and need to kick the ball.
As with any sport, a basic understanding of the rules enhances your viewing experience. However, many rules are open to interpretation. If an umpiring decision is not to your liking, the appropriate reaction would be to hurl a tirade of expletives at the umpire [and about all of his known living relatives].
To maximise the spectating experience, one needs to consume beer about equal to your own body weight and denigrate the umpire in an abusive manner at least twice [many may disagree with me here - perhaps more often, but I do try to be a gentleman!] during the couse of the game.
Despite the passion that Aussies display for this brand of football, spectators are not segregated and are usually seated right next to each other. |

Played a lot of volleyball this way: With each and every point, we rush to the sidelines to take a drink of our beer or whatnot, then rush back to position for the next serve.
By the second or third game, you're just holding your beer in one hand and hitting the ball with the other.
