| Post subject: Where's a good place to go in Shanghai? |
I'm on vacation for about a month in Shanghai but I don't really had an idea of a good place to go. I've book a tour to Beijing this weekend for about 6 days but I don't really want to be going on tour for a whole month. What to do and where to go when you are here by yourself?
Thanks. |

I haven't been to any bars or club. I do like to dance though. Where's a good place to go dancing? I did went to waitan and chenghuangmiao the other day but it seems like it's not as much fun to go by yourself to those places. It's nice to look at but I can't even take a picture for myself. |

moonreflection, what kind of music do you like? I can give you a more pertinent reply if you tell me that, but now all I can do is to give you the names of some hottest clubs in town:
Park 97
Guandii
DKD
Mint
Dragon Club
Rojam
Madam Zung
La Fabrique
VIP Room
Pegasus
You can also check out www.smartshanghai.com for more updated nightlife info. Enjoy your stay in SH! |

To be honest, after living in shanghai for 15 months or so, i realised that the city hasn't got hundreds of 'tourist spots' or sights, at least as opposed to say Beijing which has countless big and famous attractions. Sure the Waitan is nice to walk down and Yuyuan is pleasant enough for a stroll. The museum in People's Square gets good reviews, although I thought it was just quite good albeit not fantastic. Anyway, I always felt Shanghai's strengths lie in the restaurants and bars. A drink in Cloud 9 on a clear evening, or a sunday buffet at the Ritz-Carlton, or some dancing at Park 97... not the cheapest of trips of course, but I have nice memories of visits to such places. Otherwise, moonreflection, I highly recommend Hangzhou. Stunning scenery, great Chinese food and plenty to do. Again, just my humble opinion. |

You are really right about going place with someone, it's much different than going by yourself. But when you don't know anyone you still gotta have fun. I went to a dance club in jingan temple last night but it was okay. Well, since I just got back from beijing and didn't read all these recommendation yet. Anyway, I usually like the more faster techno style but not the all night house mix music only style. A little hip hop is okay too. Also, I don't want to go to places that charges 600y for some liquor either. |

Did you go to Windows? That's hardly representative of Shanghai's nightlife. Try xtina's suggestions above. All windows is is non-stop Eminem for hours on end, coupled with the occasional bar fight. |

Yes, I went to Windows. That's even worse than some of the small town's club in the States. I gotta check some of those mentioned above. So, any of those has some techno style music? |
