Post subject: Hospitals / Medical Services

Some kind of review of all the hospitals catering for foreigners would be great, together with a directory of addresses, telephone numbers, and a printout for taxi drivers, in case of emergency.

Worldlink hospital at 170 Danshui Lu was AMAZING. Nearly lost a finger a couple of weeks ago, and the service there was better than anything i could imagine anywhere. I had to have surgery and stay over night. it was like being put up in a 5 star hotel. Huashan tried to rip me off. 42,000 at Huahshan compared to 17,000 at Worldlink. The doctor at Huashan did not instill too much confidence either. Doc "are you right handed?" Me "yes" Doc "ooohhh!"

Thanks, mat. We had a bit of an emergency last night .. my man ended up in Shanghai International United Family hospital, which is a long way from where we live. He was in agony with colitis / gastro. Got to the hospital at midnight, and home at 4:00 am this morning, after having a drip, etc. It was 'okay' but we must find a closer place in case this ever happens again.

Good idea Carrol...

In the meantime, you may wish to keep a copy of That's Shanghai in a handy place at home... it lists the hospitals, phone numbers, address (in English and Chinese) of English-speaking hospitals. Won't help with the reviews but will probably be quicker than booting up a computer in case of an emergency.

Glad to hear that your husband is doing better and that the emergency was averted.
