Post subject: Chinese Cell Phones in the States?

Does anyone know if tri-band but chinese made cell phones work in the states? for example I have one of the newer Nokia phones that is triband which I already know CAN work in the states while I'm being billed in CHINA.
BUT... Is it possible to take my Chinese made cell phone and use it to sign up for a service plan in the US? (Like a T-mobile/verizon wireless monthly contract)
As far as I know, US made cell phones do not have a place for a SIM card chip in the back like Chinese made cells do...? Does this affect anything?

you would need to find a GSM provider. the GSM sims are different from the TDMA/CDMA sims.
Also some cell phones have their sim cards are inserted at the bottom or top rather than the back so maybe thats why you haven't seen the sim card slot.

I use a tri-band Motorola V220 in the US and in China. I have a US SIM card through T-mobile that I just swap out when I arrive. Many US phones do use SIM cards also, but since you usually use phone with a specific provider's it's installed/activated when you buy phone so you wouldn't know it is there.

I do the same as MadamYe--I have a SIM card from T-Mobile that I swap into my Chinese tri-band phone when I visit the States.

As I understand it, of the four or so big cellphone carriers in the USA, two are CDMA (phones that don't take SIM cards, and are carrier specific) and two are GSM (phones take SIM cards).
