I read Maxim today. The stuff inside inludes hot babes, the corpse of disgusting mutilated animals and grisly scars on men. The articles are utter jokes. People think it's cool to act angry and aggressive and say "love and romance are code words"? Looks like the taste of immature teenagers. But apparently lots of Western male adults put on a front like that, because they don't want to be considered a softy, which is not cool. Stupid! |

Magazines of this nature are a far more realistic reflection of male culture within the west than most other reading matter. It's not all about McDonalds, Nike, NBA, etc, to be a westernised guy, its about so much more.
Maxim is probably one of the higher standard magazines, more than FHM, Loaded or Nuts. So take it for what it is, read, enjoy and learn to know your enemy . |

I'm not from American so i cannot comment on the US edition of the magazine, however, the target readership appears to be the same no matter what country we are talking about.
Your average guy, which in the UK we now call lad when talking about these magazines, is more interested in reading magazines with pictures of 'babes' and articles on drinking, pulling women and general 'guy things'. The more serious news can be taken from the television and other media.
Women have Cosmo, guys(lads) have Maxim. |

Pictures of babes are great, except for all of them have pretty much the same body. But those weird things such as disgusting mutilated animals' corpse? |

maxim was an allstar magazine when it first came out, but it has gotten a little more infantile, i think it was taken over by a british publisher which totally ruined the humour. |

That's a pretty funny ad. Not sure on the message tho. Drink Absolut vodka and end up dead? |

A lot of the lower quality lads' mags run to a set formular which basically goes along the lines of:
"if you're stupid enough to read everything in this magazine cover-to-cover, then you are stupid enough to buy this every month"
The best of the lot in my opinion is GQ even though its politics are a bit right-wing. The style pages are excellent and there is some really thought provoking editorial. The American edition is really dumbed-down and a bit wank really. |

The worse in these magazines is the sex part.
It's always something like:
"15 secret tips that will drive your man crazy" (something very "secret" like give him bjs, wear sexy lingerie, buy champagne, and other "tips")
"Hot men tell their most wild phantasies" (phantasies like taking them from behind, fu-k in the bathtub, or in a desert beach, blablabla...oh how didnt i ever thought about it)
"How to reach orgasm, EVERY TIME!" (instructs women to ask their men to do preliminaries. Such a breaktrough aint it).
"Exclusive! Model talks about the devilish sex life behind the fashion world curtains" (oh yeah, the model need to su-k more diks then a lolypop addict to get a job, how surprising).
Car magazines for women, that's what they are. Something that gives you a good feeling ("hey I am actually reading something! Wow!") with a lot of pictures so you don't get "tired" so easily.
Just proves a lot about society in general. |
