| Post subject: Where is CONVENIENT to Stay?? |
Hi,
I am coming over in Nov with my wife and 3 yr old gal. My office is near the Shanghai Railway Station (Zhabei) and my wife's office is near Lujiazui Station in Pudong New Area.
Can the experience expats or locals help me decide the most convenient place to stay? i.e. is 1 Park Avenue convenient for us.
Which school should I put my daughter in? The company is paying for it.. between US10,000 to US15,000 per year..
Thanks so much!! |

Staying in or around the Jing An area may be the best compromise as it will put you near the metro for your wife to go to work, and conveniently located in the heart of town for the rest of your other living and activity needs. You don't mention if your company provides a car or transportation but getting to Zhabei/Railway station is just slightly north of Jing An, though it would require getting there by car or bus.
1 Park Ave is in the north of Jing An and seemsto be a nice place but i would recommend that your company pay for temporary housing while you come out and look, OR take a survey trip out for the purpose of checking things out personally. Its worth the effort.
Hope that helps!

Thanks yu888,
I would most likely stay in Pudong New Area, i.e. somewhere near my wife's and daughter's school. I think I should sacrifice (in a way) by taking a train to work from lujiazui station to railway station (5-6 stops I think)
Thanks again. |

revised advice: Based on what you said and what I learned after getting back to Shanghai after the holidays, finding a place near the new Metro line 4 station could be a good bet. Metro Line 4 just opened up and it has a few stops in Pudong that will take you direct to the Railway station. Pudong area housing is less expensive so I think you are on the right track.
I realise you neeeded this info way back when, but for others in the same boat, this can be very helpful. |
