Post subject: Vegetarian Friendly Eating - A List

Hi all...

I have a vegetarian visitor (no meat, dairy ok) coming to Shanghai, and when thinking about the cuisine I encounter every day, I was gob-smacked with where to take my friend.

After delving deep into SE archives, other members contributions, the internet, and my faithful LP guide to Shanghai, I came up with this list.

I have some other ideas not listed here but would really like some good Chinese establishments that are vegetarian friendly (i.e. vegetables not cooked with pork, or animal fats etc).

If anyone has any other places/recommendations, just add it to the thread. Western, Chinese, other, add it away.

that's really considerate.

you have the big ones listed. there is also:
Wagas -- a few branches around. (just remember soy chicken is chicken with soy sauce, not soy 'meat')
Tapas Barcelona or whatever the name on Maoming
Blue Frog
Kommune
every Indian restaurant
every Italian restaurant
Simply Thai
Thai Food station
Malone's (believe it or not)
.... most of the western places have something that passes as vegetarian food.

As far as local Chinese restaurants, good luck. i still get pork in my eggplant. even if they say it is vegetarian, it might not be. there is just no knowing, unless you can have an indepth conversation with the staff. the concept of being vegetarian is not really widely embraced here.

ps- i think Tiffin is no more.
