The Meanderer.
I get the impression that you are a fan of Japanese movies and, possibly, HK flicks too.
I love Japanese movies - especially gangster and horror flicks.
Where do you score yours?
My student has just lent me Battle Royale. Absolute class. |

Battle Royale is the bomb, so cool. Just an excuse for seven or eight classic death scenes.
I spent a lot of time when I was younger watching HK movies at the Empire, Leicester Sq, so I saw a lot there and scored many on vid too. Now I see that a lot are being re-released on DVD over here. I mostly by DVDs at my local shop, Ya Di on Hong Mei Lu, and they have a pretty good stock of Jap and HK
Did you see Ichi and Audition? I haven't seen them yet, but I'm interested to know what you thought of them.
The Japanese horrors are the most scary films around. I don't think anyone can touch them, although 28 Days Later was pretty damn good. |

I agree with you about Japanese horror movies. No other country seems to be able to make them as good.
I haven't seen Ichi, but I have seen Audition. I have it on dvd.
Because of the high number of Japanese living in the Gubei area, I have found that many dvd shops there stock a good selection of Jap flicks.
There's a small road near to Carrefour (next to lawson's if that helps) that has been highly reccommended to me by my Japanese students for movies. |

There's another bigger one near Carrefour, can't remember which road it is on, but they have a very good stock of Asian movies. Are you working around Gubei? |

I've seen Audition too. A bit too over the top for me. I have a thing about eyes, so the needles in eyes scenes were a bit much. Good movie though.
Is Battle Royale Japanese or HK?
I love the 80s and early 90s HK movies. But they are hard to find these days. Haven't found any shops in Shanghai with a good collection.
Where on Hongmei Rd. is Yadi? |

Ya Di is not far from Starbucks, on the same side of the road. I think it is almost next door. They have quite a few 90's HK movies.
Battle Royale is Japanese.
MMM, we should meet up for lunch sometime. I work evenings, but I am free most days. |
