| Post subject: Studying in Shanghai |
I'm an American in California, and I just ran across this site while i was searching about info about studying in Shanghai. I want to do like a year abroad in Shanghai for college. I'm a sophomore now at a small college in California and I wanted to try for either Spring of Fall next year. But, I don't speak any Chinese, and I have never received any reply from my e-mails to a couple of the Universities: Jiaotang and Fudan I think?? Are there any organizations or people who can help with enrolling and housing, stuff like that? |

Both of those are pretty large universities. I know Jiatong has a new foreigners campus (i am making it sound bad... but it's not)... look for a user by the name of gem... I believe he has some information on Jiatong, or some other contact information. I think he posted a few weeks ago either in this forum or Announcements and Events.
China was just on a week-long holiday, from October 1 through the 7th... if you sent your emails during that time, then that may explain the slow response. Try sending again. |

Emailing local universities is a resultless exercise. I have emailed a couple of local universities with questions and asking for recommendations etc and so far, it has been a chilling silence. I think if you really need information here in China, you gotta pick up the phone. |

hudson, I agree with sillygal40. forget about trying to contact universities directly. I'm in Fudan and i got things worked out for me (not just enrollment and housing stuff, but tons more) through Sinagate www.sinagate.com try them dude, they were great for me. oh, their CEO is apparently vice-president of the Fudan foreign student alumni asscociation or something. Anyway, hope this helps.
