| Post subject: Where to stay? |
Hey!
Iīm taking a shopping trip to Shanghai in a December and i just wonder in what district to stay in. A lot of "Shop ītill you drop" will occur so i need to live in close to the action (dvds and cloths are mostly what iīll buy)
And of course i ouldnīt turn down any reccomendations of (not too expencive) good hotels. |

French Concession or along Nanjing Lu. What's your budget like? |

Nanjing Lu is a very cool area. I just spent last week at the JW Marriott while in town on business. My first visit to Shanghai and I was very impressed with that part of town. And it's a cheap taxi ride to Xiang Yang market and the Dongjiadu fabric market (had to get silk for my wife!). |

East Asia Hotel on Nanjing Road pedestrian walk. 300 to 400RMB per night. |

My opinion is that Seventh Heaven Hotel beats East Asia Hotel for location, view and general feel of the room, for around the same price. |

Stayed there many a time before I moved over fulltime - BUT - I reckon it is better to be up near Huaihai Rd, maybe you could stay at the "lao jinjiang" - its a bit old but a great location on Maoming/Chengle Rd's...and close to the markets and shopping strips..
Round 800 RMB per day if thats in your budget... |

Agree with thewalrus, the 'loa jinjiang' is walking distance from Huaihai lu, where the best shopping is. You can also consider an afternoon shopping in Xujiahui (underground line 1, get in at Shanxi nanlu, get off 4 stops further at Xujiahui). |

I would prefer the "New" jinjiang than the "old' jinjiang. It's my other choice besides Xinguo. |

Check www.ctrip.com. Once you are on there there is a button for English in the top RH corner. You can book hotel but you dont have to pay online and the rates they get are pretty good.
Use that in combo with a Shanghai map. |

I prefer the Nanjing West Road area. I like Portman hotel although it is not the best. I would prefer Marriot hotel. |

Hi Joe, if you're looking to save a little on how much you spend on accommodation but also want a clean, comfortable hotel which doesn't have that stench that seems to cling to so many of the carpeted hotels in China, you can't beat the Home Inn: http://tinyurl.com/an6ax. I stayed there when i first arrived and was so pleasantly surprised (a friend of mine booked it for me and when she told me how much per night it would be (200RMB!), i expected the worst). Beds are comfy, room is super-clean and has A/C or heating as well as broadband access. That's all i needed. |
