Post subject: The Goalers ... Just a little bit of incest is ok

In gods country, east coast Canada we have opne very well known family that is just a tiny little bit odd.

The family is completely all messed up due to incest, meaning thats brothers and sisters have done the McNasty and their children are ... well ... fukced.

Anybody have any other examples of such outcast families thats aren't playing with a full deck ?

Just off the coast of Australia, there is an island state called Tasmania where there seems to be a lot of inbreeding. At one time, it had the notorious fame of having the highest amount of people shot at one time at one site [Port Arthur] by some young retard. Mainlanders tend to view the inhabitants with some amusment otherwise. Beautiful countryside, though.

Did you ever get that far south, CLM?

Tasmania's only famous because of the Taz the Tassie Devil in Warner Bros cartoons though they always show him in some lush tropical jungle.

That was only in Branch!

Actually, the province has a very small gene pool -- which makes it ideal for studying genetic diseases.

before i left cowtown we had a massive influx of newfies. i had about 5 or so as friends, one was from cape breton though, man what great fun they were. after several drinks these fcukers always pulled out the guitars and got into it. singer all that celtic sh1t. one friend of ours at my company was from england and a classical violinist. the newfies taught him to fiddle.

sh1t we would get the Crown Royal going and party until all hours of the night. what a lovely bunch of maniacs i tell you.

the one guy had an accent so thick he finally went back because no one could understand him and he was sick of explaining himself over and over again.

i liked playing on the outdoor rinks with the newfies, no matter how cold they always gave 'er and didn't whine like everyone else. good fun

I once worked with a Newfoundlander who had this unbelievable accent. Not even us locals could understand him half the time. Our company merged with an Irish company -- and he was in seventh heaven. All the Irish could understand him perfectly!

Laughing i can believe it, it isn't even so much the accent, if i had them write out what they were saying i didn't know what the fcuk it meant either.

Met this guy from Newfoundland who was teaching English in Japan. He was the only teacher on some small island there. His English was impossible to understand. Medieval was how it sounded. Poor students!

Newfoundland has some very funny accents as well as very unique words. There is a dictionary of Newfoundland English -- I don't know many of the words in there Smile

As to how strange the accent is it depends where the speaker is from on the Island. The people from the west coast have some unique aspects to their spoken english. Among other things they drop H's from words that begin with H and add them to words that don't. For example, onion would become hun-noin. Handy would become Andy. Hard would become ard. There was a childrens television show on CBC years ago called Handy Andy. On the west coast this was known as Andy Handy.

When my father went to university they had elecution lessons to clean up spoken English where they attempted to teach people how to speak in a more traditional manner.

These days most people from the St. John's area speak with a normal east coast accent -- much like mine Smile The people from outside the capital area still speak with a strong accent.

http://www.heritage.nf.ca/dictionary/

That's a link to the dictionary online.

For example:

slobby a Cp EDD slob sb1 1: slobby 'muddy' and SLOB. Of the sea, covered with a dense, slushy mass of ice fragments, snow and freezing water (Q 67-55).
1973 MOWAT 145 It was all broke up and slobby, but it was ice, and that was some better than black rock!

or

pank v EDD ~ v 2 'pant' s w cties. To pant, breathe heavily.
1937 DEVINE 37 ~ To pant as a dog on a warm day. P 148-69 'Around, around,' he said, panking for breath. C 71-128 When I walks uphill I panks like the devil. I got ne'er bit of wind like I used to.

I love the examples Smile Pluralizing is typical of the Newfoundland accent also. "When I walks uphill I panks...". "ne're", or "nar" implies the negative. "I got ne're money by'e".
