Post subject: Halloween Costumes in Shanghai?

I'm looking for Halloween costumes either to rent or to buy.

I know that I look scary enough already without a costume but I thought I should dress up for the occassion.

Any ideas?

Last year I bought mine in the gift market, near Yuyuan Garden. Worth checking.

Holiday House is another option... 1188 Pan Yu Road, near Hong Qiao Road, just south of Xu Jia Hui.

i always think of it as south... but that could be in my head...

take hong qiao road out of xjh towards gubei, pass yi shan road and pan yu road will be the next road that you can turn left on.

it is west... but i didn't think it was north. but then again, i never really pay attention.

Aside from costumes, I think the more relevant question is about a Halloween party. For this, I suggest we borrow a page from expatriates in Tokyo - though we will have to wait until next year when metro line 4 will be finished at Halloween time.

Tokyo has a subway line called the Yamanote line (Mountain hands, or Shanshou in Chinese). Quite possibly the most important line in the Tokyo metro, it goes in a circle, much like the about-to-open line 4 in Shanghai. Starting, I believe it was in the 80s, western expatriates in Tokyo would dress up in their costumes and, through sheer numbers, noise and willpower, commandeer one or more of the cars on one or more of the trains running on the Yamanote line on Halloween and throw a party on the car until the subway shut down at 11-whatever. After a few years, Japanese began to join in. It sounds like it has the makings of some serious Shanghai lunacy. Once we have our own subway line that keeps going around and around, we could try this for ourselves. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to properly adapt the idea for Shanghai?

If you have a picture of a costume you'd like, you can have a tailor make it. We've done this several times.

where can i rent a costume that has the breasts of Wonder Woman, the buttocks of Margret Thatcher, the legs of Ted Kennedy, a squirrel tail, a donkey's neck, devil horns, neon sex toy hat, a BMW logo in the crotch hanging by a gold chain (but nothing else), 6" high heels, gloves that will make my hands/arms look like tentacles, a Homer Simpson face mask but with a Groucho Marx moustache, bling-bling fake teeth, a James Earl Jones voice synthesizer, and a big pair of angel's wings. And oh yes, I want smoke to come out of my arse everytime a bar girl squeezes my thigh. ???

Holiday House has them... in black or white. About RMB160 for the giant set and about RMB100-120 for the smaller set.

Haloween in Shanghai the same date from the states? October 31st?

Why not try to comandeer a train regardless?, whats the worst that can happen? get kicked out, last I remember theres 4-5 Metro lines to hijack, and I don't really see alot of the train attendants after regular working hours, 6-7pm.
