| Post subject: Looking for good gym near Shimen Yilu metro |
Hello, I live close to Shimen Yilu metro and wonder whether anyone can recommend a good gym nearby? I’ve looked at Total Fitness which seemed quite good for about 3000RMB per year and also Physical on Huai Hai Lu for 2200RMB per year. I liked Physical better as it had better facilities & was quite a bit cheaper, though it's also quite a bit further away from where I live. Are there any others that anyone can recommend looking at in this area, and are these prices about right?
Thanks, UB1S |

the prices are too high. physical does have a deal, but if youre a laowai, then they will give you the usual price. you need to be able to either speak chinese or have a forceful chinese friend, to find out about their special. it was 元1300 for two ppl joining together (so thats 元2600 combined) for 15mths from memory. also bear in mind that a large well known gym with a large membership went insolvent, and had been selling full memberships right up until the last minute, many ppl lost their money/membership. so if you're going to pay 元3000 for a years membership, how about making it pay per month, as circumstances can change. incidently 'my' gym PanYu on Suchuan Bei Lu, near the historic Doushan Lu was only 元1350 for one year. i know its not near where you are wantiing, but it has everything one wants in a gym except a swimming pool. at least it gives you an idea for comparison.

I never went to Total Fitness but the salesman working for them is rather annoying. Guess I prefer Physical at some sense, yes they have better facilities and the quotation I know is 1950RMB one year (seems even cheaper than yours). But the biggest problem is that Physical at HongKong plaza is way too packed and I dont feel like going to the ones at Raffles city or Xujiahui for some reason. Plus Physical dont have spinning which is claimed to do harm to human body as per their salesman. As for this point, I really have no clue about whether it is correct or not.
Anyways, you can buy a season membership at physical at first and try a little bit. If things trun out to be out of your imagination, you could easily shift to other options like Meg Fit or Total. However if you care more about the distance, just try Total at first to see how it runs well.
Just my two yuans. |
