| Post subject: MACBETH from UK & THE TAMING OF THE SHREW from POLAND |
The Taming of the Shrew (from Poland)
Polish Dialogue, Chinese & English Subtitles
?°The Taming of the Shrew?± is one of the most popular Shakespeare??s comedies. It tells of marital adversities, of male methods of taming female ambitions, and also of human hypocrisy, blandishments, bargaining over love and money. Shakespeare in his better comedy, as usual, mixed tones and vistas of historical perception. He made subjective worlds collide with an objective view on the attitudes and problems of the characters. As a result, a ?°human comedy?± was created-full of irony, but also full of understanding of human weaknesses.

MACBETH
English Dialogue, Chinese Subtitles
This is a full - blooded production that is not afraid to unleash the power of Shakespeare's dark masterpiece. The witches are identified as the source of the dramatic energy of the play. They are shamans, wild forest spirits and they are neither man nor woman. They inhabit the entire world of the play. Macbeth himself is a warrior, not a thinker, a man of courage whose bravery is corrupted by unthinking ambition. His wife is also a type of witch, this is a Lady Macbeth who calls down the spirits to ?°unsex her here?± but is possessed and destroyed by the demons she thought to command. In contrast the Porter scene is a comic and acrobatic dance that is (unusually) genuinely funny. The set, by noted designers Kurn and Gross, is an extraordinary luminous series of walls that become trees. These move around the stage on wheels, creating striking visual imagery.

Oh I love the Taming of the Shrew! What a shame it's not in english - subtitles don't really work for me with shakespeare - to enjoy it I need to hear the words spoken. Might make it for Macbeth though - another favourite of mine. |

Cool. I love MacBeth and the Art Theatre's just around the corner from my place.
Of course Shakespeare is best in the original Klingon |

Anfu is sort of parallel to Chang Le Rd west of ChangShu Rd up to HuaShan Rd.
The theatre is closer to the HuaShan end, between Hua Shan Rd and Wulumuqi Rd.
Here's a map |
