| Post subject: restaurant review: Indian Vintage |
There have been some posts praising Indian Vintage, however my experience there was not as favorable. I went to go check it out last weekend, as it's far closer to my condo than Vedas (which I love, but is unfortunately quite a distance from my home). In summary:
Music there is inconsistent to say the least. When I first arrived, they played what seemed like Indian music. It then switched to the likes of J. Lo, or Backstreet Boys, et al.
Service is slow.
They burnt the tandoori chicken.
The garlic nan I ordered was also partially burnt.
While I don't have the raw numbers, I highly suspect Indian Vintage is more expensive than Vedas (on average).
The rice dish I ordered, despite the rice being soft, was a tad on the dry side. I don't remember the name, but I remember it was the most expensive rice dish they had.
When it came time to pay the bill, they told me my ATM card couldn't go through their machine. They asked if I had a VISA card instead, which I did not. Luckily I had enough cash with me.
When I asked to get the receipt (fa piao), they said they did not have any at the moment. They told me to write down my name/addy, so they could mail it to me. However, I'm not holding my breath. If the receipt does turn up in the mail, I will make a follow-up post stating it.
I went to That's Amore some time ago, and they did in fact mail me the receipt a few days later. Kudos to them.
This post is not intended to bash Indian Vintage. My position is simply that I feel Vedas is a better choice, as well as being less expensive. YMMV.

Indian Vintage is a strange one. I walk past there during lunchtime at least once a week, and they have the tables outside and the open sign up, but EVERY single light is off inside, no one to be seen and apparently no customers.
The previous tennants of that location, Domani, were also a very strange bunch. Again, i used to walk past there often and there seemed NEVER to be any customers. Never saw one. However, me and Mrs Mat decided to try it one night, so in we went, where we were very quickly ushered UPSTAIRS!! There they were, about 6 or 7 tables of people sitting down to a pretty damn good meal. People would not come in because it looked empty! Tip number 1. SIT PEOPLE DOWNSTAIRS FIRST.
Good luck to them, but they need some quick lessons on how to get customers in the door. |
