Post subject: Rip off prices at Bourbon Street

Mate and I went down the Heng Shan Lu last night and dropped into Bourbon Street. had not been in there for ages and I will not go back. RMB75 for a pint of Guinness is way above what even the other pubs in the area are charging. Worse still is was crappy Guinness too Sad

Bourbon Street is such a sad place. Used to be a lovely antebellum-style home with passable, if not good, creole-style food. would convert into a bar in the evening. then the caged dancing girls were added, the place was shut down for a few months and it re-opened with the grotesque lighting and tacky beer/liquor signs.

rmb75 for a pint of guiness is higher than even the irish bars charge! what are they thinking? guess the repeat customer is not in the plan.

One will definately not be taking ones custom there again. Yes it was shut for about 6 months due (I heard) to a dispute between the manager (A US Citizen) having a disagreement with someone high up in the Shanghai Police and asking said policeman to leave. Police returned the next day and shut it down.

Yes it is totally crap now. Actually after the crawl last night I think many of the bars there are crap. I will stick to my old bolt holes.

If you know New Orleans and N'awlins food, all imitations are pathetic, . 'Big Easy' in Beijing comes close, but B.S. is not even trying any more.

The food went down the toilet at Bourbon Street when the cage dancers were introduced about four years ago. They used to have one of the finest gumbos outside of LA. Which brings me back to having to make my own... something I have been meaning to do for years here... but it is such a workhorse and the kitchens are so not user-friendly! Third thing I make when back home! Can't wait!

I avoid Hengshan Lu like the plague for bars. Except Dong Ping Road. Otherwise I find the street boring and too full of people just walking around and around.
