Post subject: I've visited Shanghai !

Dear all,

I just want to share my experiences when I was at Shanghai on the 10-14 November.

Day 1:
Reached Shanghai around 5.30pm, surprisingly it's already getting dark. In Kuala Lumpur, the sunset around 7pm. It is hotter than I've thought. Just a bit chilly, as I wore only a T-shirt and jeans. Boarded a car, heading to YangTze Hotel. On the way, I was pretty amazed by the driver's driving skill. Speeding, horn and flashing headlight seems to be the compulsary actions needed in order to drive in Shanghai. There's a bit of traffic jam on the way to hotel, reached there about 6.30pm. Checked-in, then I stormed into my hotel room for rest. The condition of the room is good. No more smelly as mentioned by some of the travellers on the travelling website. At 8.00pm, I went to Nan Jing Dong Lu for dinner. The first thing I ate is the Japanese Tako, it is very cheap and tasty, just 3RMB for 5 pieces. In Malaysia, it costs around 6RMB for 3. The Nanjing Dong Lu were terrific. I'm enjoyed the scenery around it, especially the buildings with animation lights. Bought some clothes at Baleno and spent the remaining hours for the days there and went back to sleep. A good night sleep, thought it's a bit annoying sleeping at the 3rd floor of the hotel, heard all those honks and people talking on the road.

Day 2:
Woke up at 6.00am, washed my face then walked out from the hotel looking for breakfast, there are a few local hawkers just opposite hotel. Selling soya beans and some local foods. I took all type of foods selling there as my breakfast. It is very tasty and cheap. Then I walk towards the Bund from my hotel. I stopped at a green color convenience store (Ke Ah - If I'm not mistaken). Bought a soya bean drink at RMB1. And I bought also a milk drink which have TWINS (HK Singer) and 4 packs of Jay Chou instant noodles. Then I reached the Bund, a magnificent view of the Pearl Tower. It was about noon so I went looking for some local food for lunch. I've reached a restaurant at Nanjing Dong Lu. I ate the dumpling, wan tan soup and fried roll. Hmm, the taste was not bad, but it's quite salty for me...and my friend too. After that we walked back to the hotel for some rest. At about 4pm, we went out to Nanjing Dong Lu again, to buy souveniers to friends and family. Bought some snacks, which need to weight for the price. Not so cheap, as they made it for tourist. Walked around the Nanjing Lu, to underground people square, shopping complexes. Then we boarded the underground train to Shanxi Rd station and walked to Xiang Yang market. I hate that place because THE MOST ANNOYING THINGS THAT KEEP HAPPENED AT SHANGHAI IS THOSE PEOPLE ALWAYS KEEP OFFERING YOU A STUPID BUSINESS CARD SIZE STUFFS. Almost every minutes, we got blocked by people giving that kind of card. Second is the lady selling rose. Third is people offering bags like food in menu. I'm at Xiang Yang market for 5 minutes then I got pissed-off and went back to hotel using Huang Pi road station to People Square station.

Day 3:
Woke up around 7am, went to Nanjing Lu again.. but this time, it's completely a different environment. A night, we saw only youngsters, but in the morning, we saw the elderly exercising. Good for health. At around 9am, we took a taxi to YuYuan Garden. Very very beautiful place. I ate the fried crab which is so tasty. At around 10.30am, we went back to hotel to packed our stuffs and went Hilton hotel. We got our body and stuffs checked each time we go into the hilton hotel as there is a tennis tournament going on at that time. At around 4pm, we walked around HuaiHai road until 7pm then boarded a train to LuJiaZui station where the tower is. Basically, there's nothing much to do there, just an impressive structure. Then we went back to hotel after spending around 30minutes at Pudong.

Day 4:
Woke up around 8am, and went for breakfast at the hotel. It costs around 200RMB per person. Luckily it was included in the hotel room charges. Then at 10.15, I boarded a HSBC bus at Hilton to Sheshan Golf Club to watch Tiger Woods, David Howell in action. It's very beautiful at Sheshan golf club. It took around 1 hour to get there from Hilton. Came back from the golf club around 3 pm, and had a good evening nap. Woke up around 5pm, then walked to Nanjing Si Lu. Nothing much there, just some shopping complexes and a temple, which already closed when I reached there. So, just went back to hotel.

Day 5:
Woke up at 4.30am, and went to Pudong airport for a 8.30 flight to Bangkok transit and to Malaysia.

THINGS THAT I FOUND IN SHANGHAI. (POSITIVE & NEGATIVE)
(JUST MY OPINION)
1) Clean
2) Aggresive Taxi driver.
3) People are not looking at traffic light to cross the road.
4) Hate those people that give stupid business card.
5) Food are cheap but a bit salty and oily.
6) People can't really speak english.
7) Expensive perfume and cosmetic (Compare to Malaysia)
Cool Beautiful scenery.
9) Well, developed.
10) Impresive buildings with animated lights.
11) Morning exercises. Good for health.

Thanks Stormy - superb that you enjoyed yourself, mostly. Just a few comments on your observations:

1) Clean - Blimey, Malaysia must be filthy!
2) Aggresive Taxi driver - at least he got you from the airport to your hotel in one hour.
3) People are not looking at traffic light to cross the road - they're not the ones to worry about. It's the car drivers who don't look at the traffic lights when crossing the intersection that you should worry about.
4) Hate those people that give stupid business card - me too
5) Food are cheap but a bit salty and oily - yep.
6) People can't really speak english - true
7) Expensive perfume and cosmetic (Compare to Malaysia) - dunno about this
8. Beautiful scenery - I assume you mean the cityscape. Yeah, it's nice
9) Well, developed - I find that the girls here are quite slender, or am I missing something.
10) Impresive buildings with animated lights - isn't this the same as Cool?
11) Morning exercises. Good for health - sh1t for hangovers.

Someone has to do something to dispel the myth that Nanjing East Rd is a good tourist destination/base.
