| Post subject: traveling to Malaysia soon - KL - KK |
We are traveling to Kota Kinabalu soon.
We booked air tickets from Shanghai to KL.
I've checked Air Asia for the domestic flight between KL and Kota Kinabalu, and it's definitely cheap.
Do you know if these budget airlines use the international airport of KL or??
In different countries in Asia, they would use a small airport in a remote area.
I need to check that info before booking, to make sure we have enough time for transit.

Air Asia is no doubt very cheap and the no-frills flight is fine for short distances. Please allow ample time for your connection, though, particularly if you are flying from Shanghai to KL on an airline that is prone to take-off delays. Because Air Asia runs on online e-tickets, you cannot get a travel agent to book the whole journey for you end-to-end. This also means that if you have check-in baggage, you cannot check it through and must collect your baggage at KLIA and check-in all over again.
If there is a delay with your earlier flight and you miss the Air Asia connecting flight, no one takes responsibility for it! It happened to me a few months back - the China Eastern flight was delayed by almost 3 hours and even though the Air Asia flight was still on the ground, they had sealed the cabin and I was not allowed on! I had to pay for a new ticket and because of the timing involved, I had to stay a night in KL. That said, the price of the orginal ticket plus the replacement ticket came to about the same as I would have paid for a Malaysian airlines ticket!
Have a safe and happy trip! |
