So what was the highlight of your film watching year?
For me, in no particular order:
Sin City
Star Wars – Revenge of the Sith
Madagascar
Crash
The Descent
Lord of War
Just Like Heaven |

Best for me: The Incredibles
Worst: Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Unfortunately I didn't keep up with all the great independant films and foreign movies, but rather that's my review based on the crap that the DVD vendors have been hawking. Haven't seen the new Harry Potter yet either. |

How did I forget the Incredibles!!! I'm with you on that one really enjoyed it.
Disappointments would be Harry Potter 4, War of the Worlds and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory amongst others. |

There's not a lot to choose from besides the Increditbles and Madagascar.
The rest is load of ******. Especially StarWars:Revenge of the Sith!
Can't believe that's even on your list. I guess it sort of shows what a crap year at the movies 2005 is. |

Hey kuldaen have you seen all the films I listed? I can’t believe you only liked Madagascar and Incredibles during the whole year!! I do agree with you in general; it has been a fairly poor year all in all but still there were some crackers too. |

Bellabella, I have been locked up in the spare room listening to the da1a¡ 1ama on my iPod and practising t¡betan chanting whilst attempting to lock out and make sense of the world. I am now feeling enlightened and back in action. |

Hmm....recalling those movies is difficult, so many seen this year.
Sideways - loved it
Life and Death of Peter Sellers
Brothers Grimm
man I really can't remember all the movies I've seen this year, there have been so many. And also I catch up a lot, so some movies I've seen are a little old.
Jboy, I will watch firefly sometime soon, I'm a big JOss Whedon fan, but I have to download them, as noone is selling the series here. Do you like the other Whedon universes?
And all of you who said Star Wars - Revenge of the Sith was in your top movies. WTF? It was barely better than the other two shite prequels, I was bored bored bored. Check out some of the movies in the top 100 of all time lists, educate your palates! That sounds really condescending but I don't mean it to. Just that you could demand, and receive, so much more than lucas' budget outpourings. |

Reading some other posters has jogged my memory, loved Kung Fu Hustle and Sideways was brilliant. I also enjoyed The Aviator. |

Dogtown and Z-Boys!
That was fcuking excellent, one of the best doc's I've seen for a while. At the end of it I felt like I had grown up with them. Looking forward to watching Lords of Dogtown, though I doubt it will be as good.
Also Capturing The Friedmans - very odd little documentary. Came away from it a little confused as to who had actually done anything. But the home movies were quite something.
Mail Order Bride was a nice independant mockumentary. Not a gut buster, but funny in parts.
Was Ray this year or last year? Whichever, I loved it. Great biopic, excellent acting from all involved and superb music. |

I have all of buffy, all of angel, all of firefly on dvd. Let me know if you need to borrow them to make a copy, more than happy to do that for a fellow Joss Fan.
I am pretty sure sideways was from 2004 and if 2004 indie movies are up for discussion I would definate bring up my 2 favorite indie movie from that year Gardenstate and Saved! |

Crappy year at the movies but some of the ones mentioned were good. Crash and Batman were really good. I enjoyed the star wars a lot as well but then I will never completely diss a star wars. Really liked four brothers as well. That was excellent.
Charly and the Chocolate factory was very dissapoitning I though. Haven't see the corpse bride yet. Trailer looks great. Haven't found a good copy of serenity yet. Harry Potter was also very enjoyable. |

Borrowing FIrefly would be superb, thanks a lot! Yeah, we also have all of Buffy and Angel. Did you enjoy season 5 of Angel, I thought it was pretty damn good, excellent in places, but I know some people were less than impressed. I LOVED the puppet episode - fantastic, and the transformed Fred was almost as enjoyable as evil Willow (who I can't get enough of).
Also really enjoyed Saved, very well observed and aimed piece of work. I imagine it would have been a little difficult to get it okayed and distributed, given the mild criticism of fanatical CHristians.
Since I have overstepped the bounds of the year, I would also like to say that Control Room blew me away, a stunning, real piece of reporting. The Fog of War was also a very candid insight into the mechanics of warfare. |

Another film that springs to mind is The Merchant of Venice with Al Pacino and Jeremy Irons, instead of detracting from Shakespeare the film highlights his genius. Al Pacino is brilliant and altogether a very memorable experience.
Finding Neverland with Depp and Winslet was also very well done too. |

Good call BD, Merchant of Venice took a while to come out over here, but it was well worth the wait. A very accessable and enjoyable interpretation of the play, with Pacino only once doing 'a Pacino'. Very restrained. And also very unjudgemental on poor Shylock, it gave a background to his bitterness and hatred, it actually painted him much more as a tragic figurem rather than a villain. |
