Post subject: Xbox360 Trickles into Shanghai

Our friends at exit 2 XuJiaHui metro had a couple in stock this week for 3,200 - Thanks to the slow take up in Jap, japanese xbox360's are finding their way back to china at fairly reasonable prices.
You'll need a step up convertor (another 200rmb)
I picked one up yesterday and it worked out of the box after changing the language to english. (even connected to XBOX Live Smile )
Good news is many of the US released games are region free and some of the Japanese games change to english once you've set your xbox360 language.

I've been told that you should be able to get the Japanese versions for around 3000RMB for the Premium Bundle
once they do start trickling in more.

Here's a short list of Region-Free and Region-Locked games
http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-17-74-yu.html

However, in my opinion, there aren't many games out at the moment that are really worth buying.
Project Gotham 3, Condemned, Call Of Duty 2 and maybe a few others but for the most part they're just
bad or inferior ports of PS2/PC/XBox games that aren't worth the extra cost .
Here's some reviews of the Launch titles... not very good...
http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3145953

Just check out Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06, the courses look better but Tiger looks like crap on the 360 version

Wait until the games we're working on here come out in March ! Wink

Was able to log into and download from live with no problem, haven't connected to play as still figuring out the translation for NFS- underground
The quality of the launch titles is pretty poor, but there are a couple of gems in there i'm sure

I had another look at the weekend. "My" local shop is selling it for 3200 RMB while the "official" gaming store in Carrefour wants 4500... How can it be so different ?

Perhaps one's the version with a Hard Disk? Or they're just trying to rip you off Very Happy
At the moment the supply is low so its a sellers market.

Here's a list of the bundles you can get with the American version. Do you know which ones they're selling?

No bundle at all, just the console...Did not ask about the harddisk though ...
I reckon it is because the guy in Carrefour pretends he's an "official shop" ( but sells copies to locals under the counter ) selling only originals. PSP games are 580 RMB , and in the shop on Beijing Xi Lu they're 350-500 ...

I reckon I just wait until it's cheaper but get the PSP when it's out...You working on a tennis game , I think I remember you had quite a good one out once...

Yeah that sounds like it, most of the PSP games I get are around 400. I can get them cheaper than 580RMB in Australia officially!
He's probably just selling at that price because he can and most foreigners who go to Carrefour don't know better Very Happy

Tennis? we've never been good at making sports games... we leave that to EA. We make games where some guy sneaks around
in the dark like some sort of Cell, or covert maybe even ghostly reconnaisance or about some prince in Persia. (Coming to xb360 in June, March and June respectively Wink)

You're too right about that ...rip off Smile

I was tempted to buy something about some prince Smile for the PSP the other day but then I saw the Gameplay Video and it just looks like a port from the 2nd PS2 adventure ( which was horrible by the way I played it for five minutes and gave up despite having loved the first one and finishing it over the christmas holidays 2 years ago )... Awful... I wish there was someone I could complain to Smile

@Daveyduff: How do you connect to LIVE? Did you already have an account, or did you set that up together with the 360?

You can either reuse your old XBox account or sign up for new - if new have to make up address outside of China, since your first month subscription to Xbox Live Gold is free and any subsequent renewal can be done via prepaid vouchers you don't need to enter valid addresses as there is no need to cross ref them with your credit card

If you can spare the cash HDTV is worth it in my opinion. If you're on a budget, a good ~8000RMB 5.1 surround system may provide more enjoyment. But it's all relative to how many new games will be coming out in 720p or 1080i resolution and did the software people really optimize the game for 720/1080. Dead or Alive 3 is 720p, and the picture quality and colors are great, but they did not put nearly as much detail as they could have into textures and other things that can only be seen in higher resolutions. PGR2 and Forza, for example, have a lot more detail (paint, road surface, grass) visible at 480p. Unless you can easily afford true HDTV, it wouldn't be much of a setback to get a 480p only set, and that will save you a lot of money. HOWEVER, check first what titles Xbox360 and PS3 will have that support 720/1080. Also, there's also the gamble of government mandated HD TV broadcasts in the western countries, and the emergence of HD DVD's....do you expect to keep this TV for when these things become mainstream?
