Post subject: What bank should I join?

Hi there,

What bank would you recommend I join when I move to Shanghai? As my Chinese language is really poor, I will need English speaking staff.

Many thanks!

Talk to a Dr. Li Zheng at the bank in Shanghai Renji Hospital.

Been making monthly donations for years now; they'll put you in fine shape.

my two cents for what it's worth:

It really depends.

I would suggest to get an account at HSBC in China anyway. They speak reasonably well English in the branches.

As for the other local banks (cough, cough), not really that well and not really that client orientated yet. Improving though. If you have to go for a local bank I would suggest Bank of China or China Merchants Bank.

If your salary is partially paid outside China in non RMB currency, get an account at HSBC in HK next time you stop by there. They have perfect internet banking. professional staff and you can get money in and out easily from there. In China getting non RMB out of the country is not that easy, is being relaxed step-by-step though.

Hope it helps.

Cheers,

Adreno

Well . . .

I got Bank Of China setup at Jing Jiang area. Service is alright and they understand English rather well. It took me about 20mins to get the cash withdrawal card... whereas my friend who is a Shanghainese got her's 2 weeks later...

My half cent worth...

Cheers mate
